Jaguars Free Agent RB Maurice Jones-Drew To Sign With Raiders

Free agent running back Maurice Jones-Drew is going home.

According to multiple reports, the longtime Jacksonville Jaguars running back will sign a three-year deal with the Oakland Raiders on Friday.

Jones-Drew, who played his college football at UCLA, was born in Oakland and his addition to the Raiders will help provide depth behind the oft-injured Darren McFadden.

Jones-Drew visited with the Pittsburgh Steelers at the end of last week. While they reportedly still had interest in him after he left town, his asking price was more than likely too high as he was rumored seeking around $3 million a season.

With Jones-Drew now off the market, the Steelers will turn their attention to New England Patriots free agent running back LeGarrette Blount, who is scheduled to meet with the team today.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

MJD was a very good player for a few years. Too bad he had to spend those years playing for the Jags. At least he’s got the chance now to play for a perennial superpower known as the Oakland Raiders.

  • Milliken Steeler

The good news is, at least he is use to not winning at the pro level, so this shouldn’t disappoint him to much at the end of 2014.

    DRAFT YOUNG !!!! don’t be dumb…. No has been’s

  • AzheDraven

I’m hoping this means Blount won’t leave Pittsburgh as a FA.
I read someone said Ratbirds had interest in him, so, with Ray going to hail, and with (I think) no depth, hope they sign him and leave them in a bad shape.

  • steeltown

Yea I could see the Ravens signing him, if we don’t, like us they’ll undoubtedly draft a RB at some point but they’re not afraid to add talent via FA, especially with the Ray Rice situation

  • CW

Well the Raiders had the cap space to afford what MJD was demanding. So not much of a surprise.

Probably the right move by everyone. Pretty sure he grew up a die-hard Raiders fan, so combine that with better $ and an always injured RB, and I definitely understand his decision. Few humans can muster the stomach to play for that squad, but he should be one of them. Now when they beat the Steelers like they do every time we play them, at least we will have an excuse. They now have a good player.

  • CW

They only beat the Steelers regularly when the game is in Oakland, which has been one of those nightmare cities for the Steelers since 1995.

  • steeltown

Yea when I heard there was a visit scheduled I was pretty sure it would happen, they’ve been very active in FA this year

  • Brendon Glad

Yeah, I know I was just exaggerating. This losing 4 of the last 5 to them has been ridiculous so I was just taking a little jab at them. Because for that, they deserve a jab or 2.

  • alex

woulda been nice, but i loved the steelers vs raiders in the 70s, and being a cali boy,

so, go raiders, here comes 6-10! (for the raiders, but 10-6 for the steelers)

  • StrengthOfVictory

D-Jax will end up (I predict) with either the Pats, Jets, or Panthers.

Not only will the Steelers not consider him at all, no Pittsburgh fan should want them to, either. Too much drama and trouble there. Not to mention $$.

  • Kevin Gobleck

Man how many washed up player have now signed with the raiders? I know Schaub, Woodley, Tuck, MJD, and Charles Woodson, i feel like i’m missing a few

  • Bill Molinaro

MJD was a good player who in the past killed the Steelers and I ‘hated’ him for that! Would have been hard to digest his being a Steeler.

  • steeltown

Funny thing is, lets say if works out initially for them and they gel and start winning games and become relevant again.. in 3yrs time they’ll be in rebuilding mode again

  • T R

    whoohooo Steelers sign Blount today..
