New Steelers S Mike Mitchell To Be Introduced To Local Media Thursday Afternoon

New Pittsburgh Steelers safety Mike Mitchell agreed to a five-year, $25 million contract earlier in the week and on Thursday, he will be officially introduced to the media during a 1:30 p.m. EST press conference.

Prior to the start of the new league year, Mitchell told USA Today Sports that he wanted to find the right fit during free agency after already being a member of two teams during his short career.

“I want to play for somebody who’s going to be a contender, and I want to be on a team that sees me as an integral piece, not just a little fill-in,” Mitchell said. “I want to be a staple in someone’s defense, because I think I can become that type of player.”

Mitchell will indeed get that chance n Pittsburgh as he will now be starting opposite Troy Polamalu in the Steelers secondary.

On Wednesday, details of Mitchell’s contract finally came to light and while the deal averages $5 million a season, it only included a $4.75 signing bonus and $6 million in first-year guarantees. His 2014 cap charge also is a mere $2.2 million.
