NFL Network Draftnik Daniel Jeremiah Has Steelers Taking LSU WR Odell Beckham Jr. In Latest Mock Draft

NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah has now released the latest version of his mock of the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft and he has new name for us to discuss for the Pittsburgh Steelers at the 15th overall selection.

LSU wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has made a pretty big jump in Jeremiah’s latest mock draft and that’s who he currently sees the Steelers taking in the first round.

Jeremiah writes:

Beckham is gaining steam as we head toward the draft. He is explosive with the ball in his hands and he’s a weapon in the return game as well.

Beckham is now Jeremiah’s third-rated wide receiver behind Sammy Watkins and Mike Evans, and now that the team has lost both Emmanuel Sanders and Jerricho Cotchery during free agency, they have an even bigger need at the position.

During his three seasons at LSU, Beckham registered 143 catches for, 2340 and 12 touchdowns. At the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, Beckham measured in at just over 5’11″ and weighed 198 pounds. He ran a 4.43 forty time and a registered a 38.5 vertical jump.

Is 15th overall too high for Beckham? Many project him to be a slot receiver in the NFL, but he can play outside as well. Last season, he was targeted 90 times and only caught 59 passes for a 65.6 completion percentage. In addition, of his 12 career college touchdowns that he scored, only two came inside the red zone.

Discuss Beckham below in the comments.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

Why get a AB clone? The Steelers need some type of WR/TE that can produce a mismatch in the redzone. I’d go out on the limb and say the Steelers have one of the worst red zone offenses the past 3-4 yrs.

  • Craig Ressler

I would hate this pick. Yes, good tape, great combine but we don’t need another 5’10″-5’11″ guy!

  • steeltown

15th overall? No way, he does everything well but nothing great. He doesn’t have elite size or elite speed, his college numbers are so-so, the best thing he has going for him is he can return kicks. Seems like a 2nd Rd talent to me.

  • William Bigelow

    Um, no thanks ….

  • steelster

They finished 16th in 2013, the seahawks finished 14th.

  • taztroy43

We already have a guy like this on the roster by the name of marcus wheaton! No thanks ill pass…would rather have te ebron, wr evans, benjamin(after trading down) or even adams in the 2nd if hes there….

  • AndyR34

No thanks…same size basically as Sanders and few here wanted him.

  • Kenneth Wilt

    Ummm….No.

  • Matt Manzo

This is the only pick that would make me cry!

  • mlc43

Haha..more than a few WRs I would take over him if we go offense. The player isn’t a bad player or anything, it’s just that we already have him in AB. This guy should lose his opinion license.

  • SumnerYoung

If Evans or one of the top two corners aren’t there at 1.15, I’d prefer to trade back, get an extra pick, and try to draft Jordan Mathews, Marquise Lee, Kelvin Benjamin, or Kyle Fuller.

  • shawn

Ya would be a horrible pick … i can’t see them going this direction …we could pick up a late draft pick for what this guy would add to our team !

  • Xclewsive

True, but Seattle was by far the better running team. The Seahawks had a great +/- TO differential that factors into things as well. The Steelers kick a ton of FGs in the redzone.

  • RMSteeler

That’s the funniest thing I’ve read all day! Don’t think Colbert has long enough arms for that reach. Beside the fact he’d be tarred and feathered and run out of town. C’mon Jeremiah! should be the new C’mon Man!

  • Madi

Seriously. If you can’t get Evans or a top CB, and no top 5 player freakishly falls for some reason, then get the hell out of there. Too deep a draft to reach. Especially with no mid-3rd. Every pick should be outstanding value. If not, do what you can to trade back.

  • Madi

Still better than the guy that has us picking Haha Clinton-Dix :)

  • wilsonmjw

where did we draft AB? Yeah….about there

  • Garrett Hunt

I really like Beckham, but not 15th overall! If he fell to the 2nd then you talk about taking the AB clone.

  • steelster

the worst mock pick for the steelers I have seen so far.

  • Michael Pearce

Hell no! Is this a joke? Not worth commenting on.

  • CW

Only way I see this as happening is if the Steelers trade down into the late twenties and everyone else they might have an interest in for the first round is gone.

  • Rob Dove

And if they do look for them to be running to the podium with the pick, just like they do for every other reach. If the top two wide outs are already gone there has got to be better talent available at pick 15 than this guy. This draft is deep at WR so if a greater talent is available in the first round go somewhere else

  • Will Hammer

There isn’t a prayer they go wide Out 1st rd …D line or Corner …

  • Jay Jaber

Their is no discussion it’s a big no. Marquess lee is way better then him Jordan Mathews is better then him. I don’t think Jeremiah got the memo if the steelers do take a WR in the first he’s going to be over 6 ft

  • Jay Jaber

Haha I agree 100% with last sentence lol

  • Biggie

There is only one WR I’d want at 15 after Watkins goes early and that is Evans. If he is gone then as of now we go cb. A move back to take a DL is acceptable. As to WR this draft is way to deep to be reaching in any round. Wait till 2nd and there will be 3 or 4 for the taking.

  • Steeler North

I agree. But I love when guys start climbing the big board. I have seen other mocks where he is rising. That means we may have a better chance at a trade back with someone who falls in love with him

  • Joe Gulaskey

Evans is the only WR the Steelers would consider in the first. Benjamin, Beckham and Robinson would be back ups for the second round.

  • Jason White

Is he sure the Steelers won’t trade their 2014 1st and 2nd, their 2015 1st, 2nd and 3rd along with Ben Roethlisberger, Leveon Bell, Antonio Brown, and Troy Polamalu to the Browns for their 7th round pick so we can pick up a punter?

  • Brian Miller

Ha ha, I see what you did there…

  • T R

no way.. we got Antonio for that.. only small receiver we would pick with the 15th if a everyone ahead amnesia and Sammy Watkins drop and we pick him. other then that if it a WR it will be Evans, Benjamin, Lee or Ebron… i have spoken. LOL

  • RMSteeler

There’s probably better odds that the Steelers trade Landry Jones to the Browns for one of their 2nd round picks. Hell, maybe the Raiders would take him for a 1st!

  • dkoy85

If we’re going for a smallerish receiver, I’d much, much, MUCH rather have Marquise Lee. Honestly, I see value in him at 1.15 and after losing Cotchery I’m leaning towards WR first pick. This draft is prime to move back and go either Fuller, Lee, or Benjamin.

I’m one of the few who is not sold on Evans, and to think about the price the Panthers would pay to move up to grab him if he falls to us makes me a little giddy. Then go for whichever one of the 3 are there and either 1. Keep all the extra picks or 2. Use the extra picks to move around in rounds 2 or 3 and with all the luck in the world be able to move up and grab the other one that fell into the second rd. That’s crazy talk!

  • T R

we would pick him if we got Dennard in first rd then he drop the second rd and we got him then if Benjamin was gone..

  • RMSteeler

Seahawks have a defense. If they didn’t they’d have been 8-8.

  • T R

    explain to me then.

  • pat

Im still seeing mock drafts with us taking HaHa or Pryor seen one with us taking Lewan dont know what goes thru these analyst heads

  • dgh57

Some so called draftnik is probably working on that exact scenario right now!

  • Luis Garcia

    Doubt it.

  • Kevin Gobleck

I’d rather take Benjamin at 15 instead

  • Derick L Young

rather have Nix honestly. or Benjamin.

  • Ike Evans

This was the dumbest first round mock ever….it wasn’t even like one of those far fetched but entertaining mocks….the picks were just silly…..but odell Beckham is gonna be a beast….but I think they’re committed to this big WR thing

  • Douglas Andrews

He looks more like a late 1st rounder and possibly a high 2nd round pick. I know that’s only one game but he looks good but not great. Good that he’s able to return kicks but only 12 career TD’s?

  • Ike Evans

My uncle works the grounds crew and he told me he’s over heard ppl saying they are moving shark to Nickel cb fulltime…I didn’t give it any thought until now but what if they go safety in the first anyway? Shit, he might have heard right

  • Steve

Nix is dropping like a brick.

  • Steve

Why Safety? Just got Mitchell to go with Troy and shark waiting in the wings. In the secondary CB would be better, to take Ike’s spot.

  • Ike Evans

Did you even read the comment?

  • Steve

Did read your post and hear what you say but Shark is no CB. Shark can cover, so the hybred part may be so. He was drafted to take Troys spot.

  • Ike Evans

Well no I don’t think he is either but the point of the comment was to speculate IF they surprise us and go safety….because the value will be there…wasn’t an opinion

  • Jason White

If they took him in the 1st at 15 somebody in that war room would need tested for meth usage. They would be passing up some serious talent for a late 1st prospect at best. I’d rather take Nix at 15 than Beckham. At 15 they will pretty much have the pick of the litter. No need to take a runt.

  • Steve

Steelers need to draft a secondary person early, that is a given. At this point they need to draft a RB, TE also and a DL.

  • Steve

Nix is now a mid 2nd round choice per the NFL network draft boards.

  • Jason White

If he is there in the 2nd when the Steelers are on the clock I think they would have to think about that especially if Alex Carrington dorsn’t sign with them. Receiver/Ebron and corner in the 1st and 3rd and Nix in the 2nd would be an ideal scenario

  • Brian Tollini

I like Marquise Lee too, and Brandon Crooks even more

  • Reg Sayhitodabadguy Hunt

If the defense no.1 cb cant stop AB imagine the no2 trying to stop his clone but no in the first rd if we are gonna go offense i hope it ebron but i prefer cbnin rd 1

  • Xclewsive

As good as AB is he isn’t a redzone threat. Manny Sanders had more redzone TDs then AB. I believe AB can be more of a threat if the player opposite him can draw coverage.

  • http://batman-news.com MC

I’d rather a CB in the first if Watkins and Evans are gone. Get a big WR in the second and an ILB or DE in the third.

  • Derick L Young

    he does weigh a lot
