Panthers Free Agent CB Captain Munnerlyn Is Visiting Vikings

If the Pittsburgh Steelers really have any legitimate interest in Carolina Panthers unrestricted free agent cornerback Captain Munnerlyn like it was reported ealier in the week, they’ll have to wait until he gets done visiting with Minnesota Vikings.

According to Ben Goessling of ESPN.com, the undersized Munnerlyn is scheduled to be in Minnesota Wednesday night and on into Thursday.

Munnerlyn has spent the last five seasons with the Panthers after being drafted by them in the seventh-round of the 2009 NFL Draft and is coming off a season in which he recorded a career-high 74 tackles and 3.5 sacks to go along with two interceptions and one forced fumble.

Measuring in at 5’8″, Munnerlyn is probably best suited to play the nickel cornerback spot and that’s why it’s hard to believe the Steelers really have anything more than passing interest in him.

The Steelers are expected to address the cornerback position at least once in the 2014 NFL Draft and outside of them possibly adding lower profile free agent to compete for a roster spot during training camp, I don’t think Munnerlyn will be joining his former teammate, safety Mike Mitchell, in Pittsburgh anytime soon.
