Report: New Raiders WR James Jones Considered Steelers

On Monday, former Green Bay Packers wide receiver James Jones signed a three-year, $11.3 million contract with the Oakland Raiders, but apparently the Pittsburgh Steelers had interest in him.

According to Ian Rapoport of, Jones considered the Steelers, Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks, but ultimately decided on signing with the Raiders, because, “He grew up wanting to play for the Raiders.”

This is the first time we’ve heard Jones’ name linked to the Steelers, but at this point it doesn’t matter.

With it looking like unrestricted free agent wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery might sign with the Carolina Panthers over the course of the next few days, the Steelers have scheduled a visit with former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Lance Moore.

It really seems that the steelers are constantly playing catch up this year i guess gone are the days when we had the edge in players wanting to play for pittsburgh

  • John

Anyone who signs with Oakland — see Woodley, Lamar — does it for the cash alone. Raiders have all types of money that have to spend and those looking just at the moolah sign there.

  • Steve

Exactly. Who would want to play for a crappy team like the raiders if it was not for more bucks, Rapshit full of Bullshit.

  • John

Why don’t we just sign Jason Avant BTW? He would seem to be another Cotchery. As to RBs, there are plenty of other guys out there as well. We should just wait and sign one of them. How about Michael Bush?

  • Virdin Barzey

If you have a ring all that is left is to get paid. Raiders have tons of it, make sense.

Why would u want to play for Oakland????
