Report: Packers Expected To Re-sign Free Agent RB James Starks

The Pittsburgh Steelers were reportedly scheduled to bring in Packers free agent running back James Starks in for a visit this week, but it appears as though that’s not going to happen now.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Packers are now expected to sign Starks to a two-year deal.

The Steelers had interest in Starks after losing free agent running back Jonathan Dwyer to the Arizona Cardinals last week. Currently, the Steelers only have three other running backs besides starter Le’Veon Bell under contract for the 2014 season and none of them have played a down in the NFL.

With it now looking like Starks is out of the picture, the Steelers will have to sort through the remaining free agents to find a backup to Bell. Currently, LeGarrette Blount and Knowshon Moreno are the top two rated available running backs on the market, according to Pro Football Focus.

The Steelers still have two of their own unrestricted free agents that remain unsigned in Felix Jones and LaRod Stephens-Howling, however, the latter of the two is still rehabbing a torn ACL suffered in the 2013 season opener and not expected to be ready for action until much later in the summer.
