Report: Vikings Have “Checked On” Steelers Rehabbing Free Agent RB LaRod Stephens-Howling

It’s been almost seventh months since Pittsburgh Steelers unrestricted free agent running back LaRod Stephens-Howling tore his knee up in the 2013 season opener against the Tennessee Titans, but once he’s fully healthy, the Minnesota Vikings might have some interest in him.

According to Ben Goessling of, the Vikings have already “checked on” Stephens-Howling and that’s probably not too surprising being as Kirby Wilson is their new running backs coach. Wilson of course held that same position on the Steelers coaching staff for seven seasons before deciding not to return earlier in the offseason.

Also, as Goessling points out, the Vikings currently don’t have much depth behind starting running back Adrian Peterson now that they’ve lost Toby Gerhart to the Jacksonville Jaguars during the first week of free agency.

One would think that the Steelers still might have interest in re-signing the University of Pittsburgh product as well once he is fully recovered from his torn ACL. However, if Stephens-Howling were brought back, he would likely be asked to play for one-year minimum contract with no guarantees he makes the final 53 man roster out of training camp.

I guess its like buying a car for a kid in college…You dont want to pay alot of money for it, and if you can get a couple of years of service, you are happy. Unfortunately, he is not as reliable as a Honda Civic.

Looks like Noel Devine turned some heads at WVU’s pro day. Ran 4.3 something in the 40. From the Twitter picture, he looked pretty cut. He’s been playing in the CFL the past few years. He wants another shot at the NFL, hope his heads on straight. Might be worth kicking the tires, if their not looking to resign LSH. On some of the highlights I saw he was returning punts and kicks too.

With Coach Kirby going to the Vikings, would only make sense to have interest in LSH.
