2009 Draft

Steelers 2009 Draft Class Is All Gone As Of Thursday

Now that unrestricted free agent defensive end Ziggy Hood has signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Pittsburgh Steelers 2009 draft class is all gone.

The mass exodus of the primary members of that class started last offeason when the Steelers allowed wide receiver Mike Wallace and cornerback Keenan Lewis to walk off uncontested early in the free agency signing period.

Heading into this offseason, only Hood and tight end/fullback David Johnson remained of that class, but the latter signed with the San Diego Chargers on Wednesday with the former officially leaving Pittsburgh today.

Other members of that draft class, guard Kraig Urbik, cornerback Joe Burnett and fullback Frank Summers only lasted a short time in Pittsburgh. Urbik, however, is now a starter with the Buffalo Bills.

The Steelers other seventh-round draft pick in 2009, center A.Q. Shipley, is now a member of the Baltimore Ravens.
