Steelers Added Cam Thomas For Depth Purposes

The Pittsburgh Steelers have now officially announced the signing of former San Diego Chargers nose tackle Cam Thomas and Bob Labriola of Steelers Digest reports that the 330 pound North Carolina product was added for depth purposes.

Whew!

When it was announced that Thomas would be visiting Pittsburgh, I posted that it was in my opinion the former fifth-round draft pick would not be an upgrade over Steve McLendon and it appears as though the Steelers feel the same way.

Labriola wrote on Friday that Thomas’ versatility is that of Al Woods, who signed with the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday. In addition, he believes the former Chargers defensive lineman will add experienced depth on the Steelers defensive line.

The Steelers gave Thomas a two-year, $4 million contract and that is about right in line with what a backup should earn. In fact, Thomas received $2 million guaranteed, while Woods received $1.9 guaranteed as part of his three-year deal that he signed with the Titans.

As of right now, any of you that were on the Louis Nix III bandwagon might want to jump off of it.
