Steelers Free Agent S Ryan Clark Now A Candidate To Become New NFLPA Union President

The NFLPA is looking for a new union president and Tom Pelissero of USA Today Sports is now reporting that Pittsburgh Steelers free agent safety Ryan Clark is one of three players nominated Tuesday by team reps to replace outgoing president Domonique Foxworth.

Ben Watson and Eric Winston are the other two nominated players that will run against Clark, according to Pelissero.

Clark has been the Steelers team representative for several seasons and during that time has been very critical of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

During the lockout, Clark stated that he thought Goodell had too much power, particularly when it comes to disciplining players, and that he thought it might prevent the new CBA from being ratified by the players as a result.

Many believe that Watson, who most recently served on the NFLPA’s executive committee, might be the right man for the job, but Clark certainly will give him a run for his money for the two year term.

All three candidates will reportedly make speeches on Wednesday prior to the team rep vote.
