Steelers Mike Tomlin To Talk To Pirates Monday Before Heading To Florida Pro Day

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin will likely have a very full day Monday down in Florida.

According to several reports, Tomlin will talk to the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team down in Bradenton prior to their afternoon game against the New York Yankees and from there, it’s easy to speculate that he we go north to Gainesville to take in the University of Florida Pro Day.

While several former Gators will be showing their stuff on Monday to scouts and NFL front offices, you have to wonder if Tomlin will have a real close eye on defensive back Jaylen Watkins, who is coming off a great showing at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine a few weeks ago by running his 40 yard dash in 4.41 seconds and benching 225 pounds 22 times.

The 5’11” versatile defensive back just so happens to be the brother of Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who is considered by many to be a top-ten draft pick this year.

The Steelers will almost certainly draft one cornerback in May and it won’t be surprising to see them double-dip at the position. In addition to Watkins, cornerbacks Loucheiz Purifoy and Marcus Roberson are also expected to try and improve their numbers from the combine on Monday as well.

Maybe he should talk to the Rooney’s and get some damn players for his football team.

The corner pro day parade continues. Roberson, Purifoy, and Watkins. I think Watkins is a great sleeper that we can get later in the draft.

I like their Guard, Jon Halapio in the 5th rd. Not sure we need him but he’s one tough SOB.

Speaking of CB’s late in the draft, I have my eye on Dex McDougle out of Maryland. Only played 3 games last year because of injury, but very good speed, good ball skills, and dangerous with the ball in his hands. His pro day in April should be one to keep an eye on.

    And things of that nature…

With so many defensive needs all over the place, I would be surprised if they double dipped at corner.

Watkins little brother? No shat! Hell, if you can get that guy in the later rounds, maybe he ends up being amazing. Maybe he shows good hands and ends up playing WR like his brother. I know, I know …. not bloody likely. But you have to draft 2, because sometimes the buy you get in 5th ends up being bettwer than the 2nd rounder.
