Steelers Will Take A Look At Saints WR Lance Moore On Tuesday

Following reports earlier in the day that Pittsburgh Steelers free agent wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery is headed to the wideout-depleted Carolina Panthers tomorrow for a visit, it has now been reported by Jason La Canfora that the Steelers are bringing in former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Lance Moore on Tuesday.

Moore, released by the Saints in a cap-saving move ahead of the start of free agency, has played his entire nine-year career in New Orleans after originally signing with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2005.

Moore has made 30 starts in his career, compiling 346 receptions for 4281 yards and 38 touchdowns.

He had a big year in 2012, averaging 16 yards on 65 catches for 1041 yards and six touchdowns, but he struggled through injuries last season and his overall production was halved or worse in most areas.

At 5’9”, Moore has often been pegged as primarily a deep threat. He figures to be a fallback option should the Panthers offer Cotchery a contract that he couldn’t turn down to return to Pittsburgh.

    No thx.

  • taztroy43

If were looking at this guy. .. might as well bring s.holmes back despite all his bagage on a 1 year contract!!!!!

  • Jason Vancil

    Prefer they resign Cotch instead.

  • taztroy43

Might as well bring in holmes instead…even though he has all that bagage!!!!

  • Melly

I believe we all do. but Car currently has NO Wrs on their team. lil’ nugget, Cotch played at NC State.

  • george

The way this roster is looking we might be contending for the number one pick in the 2015 draft!

  • 804Stiller

I would think the price for James Jones would have to be lower at this point, right? He is basically lobbying the Panthers to bring him in. Wouldn’t he be on our radar at this point?

  • Steelers12328882

Pass! I’d rather have Plax back lol.

  • 20Stoney

With the exception of the Mitchell signing, everything we’re doing is reactive to something negative. It’s like we’re either caught off guard by everything that happens or at best, hoping it doesn’t happen and being forced into something when it does. Not good.

  • Bill Molinaro

Steelers need to stop signing bodies and realize that they need to rebuild with young players. I can’t believe that they would use all their cap space signing people who, when I look at film, simply can’t play. That nose tackle they signed was just awful at SD last season! The move with Worlids, (sic) Woodley and the new safety are OK but this guy?

  • mlc43

While I normally don’t agree with all the negative posting, I can see where you are coming from. Still, have to wait until it all plays out before a legit opinion can be formed.

  • Venkar

I dont understand the panic in most of these posts. Who have the Steelers lost this year (maybe other than Woods – who would have ended up a backup DE) that the Steelers wanted to keep? What were you all expecting during free agency?

  • george

    Isnt Louie Lipps still around?

  • steelster

yes, it’s the steelers in FA and they started with something like 7 million. The steelers build through the draft whether we like it or not.

  • Jazz

Drew Brees or Big Ben? I know Big Ben has two rings, but once again he’s not a pure pocket passer. I say know to Lance Moore, build through the draft. Some of the dumb (BLEEP) decisions Colbert and the F/O has recently made is coming back to haunt this team. Not many WR’s come into the NFL and make an immediate impact their 1st yr. They might as well suck it up and build through the draft.

  • Aharon Moyer

    Steely McBeam says “No Moore”.

  • Jazz

Holmes? I didn’t know Marijuana was legal in Pittsburgh. Hell No! I hope they are not that desperate.

  • steelster

no, but his son is shipps lipps

  • Jazz

I really thought Sanders were headed to Carolina, I think he probably would have gotten a sweeter deal as well. But, their is that Peyton Manning guy, SuperBowl, I can’t blame Sanders on the decision he made.

  • cp72

In my opinion Moore and Starks > Cotchery and Dwyer.

  • Jazz

The roosters are coming home to crow; Piss Poor Drafting since 2009, over paying your own guys, poor scouting department for OL and DB’s has really hurt that team. Although I will say this, they seem to do a really good job at drafting WR’s. Who the hell is in charge of scouting DB’s? I will give them thier Pink Slip and buy them a plane ticket out of there!

  • taztroy43

If u have a medical reason i think it would b legal but honestly I hope we dont sign moore or holmes of course…we seriously should just get cotch back asap…

  • Rosco

What are your guy’s thoughts on Jason Avant?

  • Aharon Moyer

Moore couldn’t catch nerds at a comic con,

  • cp72

Moore had 24 touchdowns the last 4 years. Cotchery had 14 in that same time period. Cotch had a nice year last year but it was probably more of anamoly than anything.

  • Jay Jaber

Reminds me of cotch. I think avant has better hands to. I’m really surprised the steelers haven’t called yet

  • ApexSteel

It’s the fact that we weren’t that good of a team before and we got worse. other than safety where have we really gotten better?

  • Alan Felicia

Lots of Receivers on the market: Austin Miles, Josh Morgan, Mario Manningham, Jason Avant, Jerome Simpson, James Jones, etc. Two tall and young Receivers who are coming off ACL injuries: Sidney Rice (6’4″, 27 yo) and Danario Alexander (6’5″, 25 yo).

  • William Bigelow

    Yeah, dime baggage ….

  • T R

I think you mean miles austin. LOl

  • AndyR34

Moore is broken…a shell…and Starks is only better if he is healthy, but hasn’t played a full season yet.

  • AndyR34

If these guys are all so great, why hasn’t Carolina brought them in when they have nobody…and I mean nobody. They’ve lost their #1, their #2, and their #3 from last year.

  • Michael Pearce

Hopefully its not that bad that we have to sign this guy. At this rate Ben’s third receiver maybe Ben Roethlisberger.

  • AndyR34

mic43 – you’re correct completely, but…Colbert implied that our efforts in FA were going to be a little more energetic this year and most of us thought that would mean efforts to improve the team. However, as 20Stoney points out, only the Mitchell signing can be considered a real upgrade. We have probably ‘lost’ Carrington, we have lost or cut many other players with no obviously better replacements. I think folks were looking to see some positive movement coming out of FA and are disappointed so far.

  • Gregg Edwards

wow, can’t get more exciting than this…..ZZZZZZZZZ…..

  • Douglas Andrews

It is baffling that everyone was in an uproar over back to back 8-8 seasons and yet they scream to bring back the same players from those teams.

  • sean mcmartin

Ryan clark said this year,,some teammates smoke pot. Holmes would be a good pick-up. He is a good player, remember the Superbowl victory against AZ?

  • steeler4life

how about Miles Austin??? GD WR-BIG WR- cost low.

  • Paddy

I agree, that guy can’t play. But he will be a backup to Nix

  • NW86

I still would prefer re-signing Cotchery over any of the WR FA’s available right now. I realize he may not have a lot of upside, but that’s what Wheaton and the 2014 draft pick are for. What we need out of a FA WR is a reliable guy who can move the chains and make catches in the red zone, and isn’t afraid to block. It also helps that he already knows the offense and is a great locker room veteran presence in the WR meetings.
I think Cotchery wants to be back in Pgh too. But I think he also realizes that he has made that too public in past years and it has resulted in him being underpaid because the Steelers weren’t worried about losing him. So he is looking at the market, trying to get a better offer that he will then give the Steelers an opportunity to match. Just my thoughts on the situation, but I guess we’ll find out in the next week or so.

  • joed32

Disagree with most but you’re dead on about the DBs. Recently the only times we got a good corner recently is the years that they drafted 2 and one was a bust and the other was OK. Lewis and Allen good, C. Brown and Burnett busts.

  • joed32

Yep, this will be his last contract and he would want to get the most money he can. He’s earned that opportunity. I hope he’s back but if not I wish him well.

  • srdan

You’re way off. Piss poor drafting since 09?
    09 wallace and keenan
    10 pouncey, Worldis, Sanders, Dwyer……AB
    11 Cam, Cortez and Gilbert
    12 Decastro, Beach, and Adams(heheh)
    13 ….

So if you look at it, 09 one probowler, 2010 – two. If you believe in Cam, i would say he will be in Hawaii this year and for many to come. I also believe that Decastro will be there in two years, maybe even this year.

Do you see the trend? Our guys don’t make the probowl right away, they didn’t see the field right away. And that plays into your “keeping guys around too long”. You are seeing a big turnover right now, but a solid core remains.

On drafting DBs….I can buy that. But Allen and Lewis were good picks. We have had too many fizzle.
