The Pittsburgh Steelers still might be looking to add an experienced cornerback to their roster at some point during the offseason and while we don’t know for certain, it appears as though one free agent might be coming in for a visit on Tuesday.
On Monday evening, Houston Texans free agent cornerback Brice McCain posted on Twitter that he is headed to Pittsburgh. McCain was released by the Texans back on March 11.
McCain, who was originally drafted by the Texans in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft out of Utah, is best suited to play the nickel corner spot in the Steelers 3-4 defense. Last season with the Texans, McCain played 631 snaps on defense and allowed 46 receptions and six touchdowns in 73 times targeted, according to Pro Football Focus.
The Steelers brought in cornerback Chris Owens in for a free agent visit a few weeks ago, but he ultimately signed with the Kansas City Chiefs.
If indeed McCain is making a free agent visit to Pittsburgh, the Steelers likely only have enough cap space available to offer him a one-year qualifying contract for the minimum unless they were to restructure the contract of linebacker Lawrence Timmons or work out an extension with either linebacker Jason Worilds or quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
