WR DeSean Jackson Released By Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles parted ways Friday with wide receiver DeSean Jackson after attempts to traded him reportedly failed.

It was only a matter of time before the divorce between the Eagles and Jackson took place and several speculate that the receiver’s ties to gangs might be the primary reason he was jettisoned.

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly is trying to change the culture in Philadelphia and reportedly didn’t see eye to eye with the team’s leading receiver from last season.

Jackson, who caught 82 passes for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns last season, is now a free agent and thus free to sign with any team.

One of those teams will not be the Pittsburgh Steelers as not only do they not need the problems associated with Jackson, they can’t afford him to boot.

By releasing Jackson, the Eagles will save $6.5 million in cap space. Jackson was scheduled to earn a $10.5 million base salary in 2014 prior to his Friday release.
