Report: Steelers To Visit With North Alabama S Nick Williams

According to Bo Marchionte of College2Pro.com, North Alabama safety Nick Williams has a visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers scheduled.

Williams suffered a serious knee injury early in 2012 that cost him that season. He returned in 2013 to play in 13 games and recorded 62 total tackles, five sacks and two interceptions.

At his Pro Day, Williams measured in at just over 6’2″and weighed 217 pounds. He registered a 40-yard dash time of 4.85 seconds.

Williams started his college career at Georgia where he played in 31 games. He transfered to North Alabama after the 2010 season and was forced to sit out the 2011 season as a result.

  • SteelersDepot

Sorry, had the wrong height and weight on him. He is a big boy.

  • SteelersDepot

Holy crap that kid LOVES to deliver hits.

  • Addison

I hope they didn’t waist this years 3rd and last years 4th. What is going on with this front office

  • Mike Blauser

    I want him.

  • Tullydew

    Kam Chancellor 2.0

  • Kevin Gobleck

Maybe we want to start running 3 safety’s or something

  • Doug Sawyer

bring a guy like this in after the draft or the 7th round…you can line guys this size up against TE’s and big receivers all day

  • Doug Sawyer

the new sub packages actually do

  • AndyR34

At times looked like the only player on NA defense that could tackle!

  • AndyR34

Don’t know about that, but some plays he showed Troy-like anticipation. I hope that men’s he studies film like a demon.

  • shawn

Not that 40 times are everything, but if he plays anywhere near that 4.85 speed he has next to no chance making it in the NFL ( he looks and plays very flat footed from the little tape above) …. not to mention HOW OLD is this guy ?? He played in 31 games ( I’m thinking 3 seasons) and that was in 2010 …. geez little old now isn’t he ?

  • Matt Manzo

    That’s what I was thinking?!!!
31 games 3 years ago plus 1 two years later?
Love the size, but I’m having flash backs of Scott Shields! I would love for one of these big DBs to work out for us!

  • Matt Manzo

He looks real good with the play in front of him!
Is it possible we’re looking for a LB/Safety hybrid? Polamalu did it last year but it exposed the secondary. I think they’re looking for a LB that can play that roll this year.
There’s a few of those tweener LBs we’ve been linked to; this is the first big Safety I think we’ve sat down with.

  • Superdriller316

If they pick this guy up and some how he finds the field with the OTHER Nick Williams on the field. What a mess that could be when charting tackles. Thought it was bad with Greene and Greenwood, how about 2 Nick Williams?

I give this kid one thing, he’s NOT afraid to stick his face in the fan. Those kind of hits cause receivers to get gator arms.

  • Toddy Bravo

They have to be looking at him as a potential convert from safety to LB who they can bring in as an UDFA as a project. Good read/react and physicality, but there’s no way he’ll be able to stay with any WR in this league. Hell, he’s slow for a LB these days.

  • shawn

very true about his lack of speed … and do we really need another tweener ?

  • Geoff Cordner

I like the cut of his jib! More players like him, please. Steelers better pay him enough to cover the NFL fines he will be getting with those hits, though..

  • steeltown

Think of it this way, Polamalu is obviously on the backend, W.Allen is year to year and Golden is a special teamer, neither Allen or Golden are guaranteed to be on roster this time next year, so that leaves Mitchell and Thomas as the only long term Safeties…

  • Toddy Bravo

Well, “tweener” projects are much easier to accept when they’re in the later rounds or UDFA. The kid is clearly a hard-nosed, blue collar football player, but the lack of speed and competition are hard to overcome in my mind.

  • Patrick Reid

Please tell me you got the 40 time wrong also, lol.

  • Addison

This is true. Also maybe they see him replacing Gay eventually.
