Report: Steelers To Visit With South Florida G Lawrence Martin

According to Bo Marchionte of, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a visit scheduled with South Florida offensive lineman Lawrence Martin.

Martin, who started the 2013 season as a guard, converted to tight end after the first two games. Martin, however, moved back to the offensive line for the College All Star Bowl after the season ended.

Being as Martin weighed in at his Pro Day at 318 pounds, the Steelers are looking at him as a guard. He ran a 5.29 40-yard dash and did 27 reps on the bench.

There’s a good chance that Martin will go undrafted, so he might be a candidate to be signed as an undrafted free agent.

He’s gotta be quite athletic to play TE? Maybe there’s something there?
    Any update on Embernate?

They haven’t visited with too many OL this year which is worth noting, im surprised that they havent met with more mid-late Rd OT prospects

You know that they have to give Munch at least some of the guys that he really wants to work with, and to possibly push a current lineman out, or to most-likely, stash on the practice squad for next season (probably 2 on there)…and I’m sure the Rooney’s have let him know that he can have his choice of the remaining OL litter, as long as it is after the 7th round this year, as they have actually already provided him with a wealth of both talent and experience to work with in his first year with the Steelers. I think anybody on his “draftable” wish list would have to be rated as an incredible value to overpower doubling down on DL, CB, WR/TE, and adding a S, RB, and LB with our nine picks.

Although, if there ever was a time that the FO could salvage that wasted 4th Round pick last year, and quickly upsell Jones to the Raiders in trade for Pryor, and then we have our dual 3rd-string QB and tall, young, pass-catching TE before the draft; while quieting fan unrest; and you know how much the Rooney’s LOVE bringing in a genuine football player that got the better of their vaunted defense and Coach Lebeau the season prior!…plus it would obviously then open up a slot for possibly a coveted offensive lineman on the third day.

Back to Martin though, he is a beast of a man/athlete (former point guard) at almost 320 lbs at just 6’3″! Could be a younger, bigger, devastating version of David Johnson, as a pass-catching FB/TE hybrid, but who is also, get this, O-Line capable! Quite the UDFA catch for Munch to be able to mold for at least a year, imho. I really wish we could find out how his OL rankings looked on his board after the draft.

    Go Steelers!
