Report: Steelers WR Antonio Brown Has Fired Agent Drew Rosenhaus, Considering Roc Nation

According to Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown has fired agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Getlin goes on to report that Brown is now considering hiring Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports to represent him next.

Two other high-profile wide receivers, Victor Cruz of the New York Giants and Hakeem Nicks of the Indianapolis Colts are already represented by Roc Nation as is New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith.

Brown, who was drafted by the Steelers in the sixth-round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Central Michigan, was voted the team MVP last season after catching 110 passes for 1,499 yards and eight touchdowns. He signed a five-year contract extension in July of 2012 worth $41.7 million.

You have to wonder why Brown has all of sudden decided to dump Rosenhaus. His current contract runs through 2017, so hopefully this isn’t a sign of him already being unhappy with what he’s scheduled to earn over the course of the next four seasons.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.
  • ApexSteel

    IT’S THE ROC.

  • RW

5 for 42 was more than a fair deal at the time. He was only a semi-known commodity and behind Wallace on the depth chart. Can’t imagine him holding out for more than the (average of) 8 million/season he’s already making… that’d be insane.

  • Ryan

Could be somethin to do with endorsement deals as well.

  • Brian K

I’m hoping that this isn’t the start of a down fall in character for the guy. This coupled with his own remarks that seemed unnecessary. I sure hope he doesn’t begin to be a plague as Mendy and Holmes became.

  • Steve

Very unlike Brown to make moves and remarks such as this. Sure hope he thought about it before making these decisions. Always wonder what makes a person make drastic decisions, sure it will come out ok.

  • blackandgoldBullion

That is a little surprising. His agent got him about the same money they were offering Wallace at the time. And although we were all pretty sure he would be very good going forward, he had yet to show he was worth all that. You’d have to say his agent did well for him at the time. Let’s hope he continues to think about championships and not strictly money going forward.

Perhaps he could do much better with endorsements. I’m all for guys making a boatload on endorsements, that way you can charge the Steelers a little less, win more championships and make even more peddling whatever products.

  • Louis

I have no problem with what Brown said. I’d much rather have a guy like him who puts team and teammates first, as opposed to a guy like Clark who has no problem saying negative things about his own team for the sole purpose of trying to get a few minutes of face time with a camera. As much as I respect Clark and appreciate what he did as a Steeler, his focus the last few years clearly shifted to securing a future gig with a network, even if doing so hurt the Steelers.

  • Virdin Barzey

Bad bad move if he goes with that big nose bandit JZ as his agent. Trust me, he won’t be a Steeler when his next contract is up. Personally don’t want to see JZ in the Burg at one of our games either.

  • Steelers@2010

We’re starting to hear too much about this guy off the field IMO; I hope a little fame hasn’t gone to his brain. I just recently defended him for speaking up for the team in regards to Ryan Clarks comments. Enough Already A.B; don’t turn into a prima-donna.

  • John Smith

Wow way to play into the media’s game you tool!

  • John Smith

He’s not what the heck are you talking about?
Dude fired his agent for a reason why would you even attempt to speculate as to what that reason was when you don’t know the guy at all.

  • Jeff

This seems just a little strange. There has to be a reason for such a dramatic change in agents in just the 2nd year of his deal. Hopefully it’s a non story….

  • Rodman

You ignorant moron… Jay Z owns the agency he’s not an agent. Why not go to an agency that’s owned by one of the biggest stars in the world. Props for him making the most out of his career.

  • Dewayne Braxton

    Rodman, ease up a little..ha! We’re all Steeler fans..ha!

  • Dewayne Braxton

I agree. I did not have a problem with what he said about Clark. Now I hope he gets back to focusing on football. Now that he is has become controversial, the media will seek him out. Brown needs to learn how to properly represent himself and the team. Over the years, I recall Ben maturing and learning how to avoid media traps. Harrison came along way too. Even after being released, the media could not bait him. Hopefully, Brown will grow into a consummate professional.

  • Dewayne Braxton

Well here we go! I just read an article by Sports Glory in which Ryan Clark replied, ” Antonio Brown isn’t smart enought to know a good teammate.” Perhaps a new agent is needed to help Brown focus on the buisness side of things and to resist exchanging jabs with Clark.

What is wrong with some of you people! JESUS

  • http://www.nyob.com/ Dr. Doom

motard you don’t even deserve to be called a moron

  • Asmitty56

Sigh.. I really hope if Brown getting signed to Jay Z’s agency doesn’t inflate his ego and his price tag. All I have to say is he better play out the rest of his contract in it’s current state and not demand a new one half way through. Hopefully the new endorsement deals he would undoubtedly have would be more than enough and he stays in Pittsburgh for a while at market value.

  • Virdin Barzey

Looks like JZ girlfriends are coming to this site catching all types of feelings. LOL. My bad. Unfortunately any Steelers fan would know that the way we have won 6 and going to win 7 is by guys not looking for the biggest contract they can get. You may want to look at JZ and his agency record with their clients. Any idiot can see that will not work with the Steelers and Brown will be gone. Great for Brown bad for Steelers.

  • Chad H

One of the biggest stars in the world? Huh, I thought that was the sun. Oh well, whatever dude lights up your life!

  • SteelersDepot

    tone it down.

  • stellarsfan

With all due respect, virdin’s “big nose bandit” comment is much more offensive and in all likelihood racially derived. Ignorant indeed.

  • StrengthOfVictory

I have to think the motivation behind this is endorsement deals. AB is a two-time Pro Bowl receiver, and he’s set multiple NFL records in the process. Yet the only commercial I’ve ever seen him do is Uncle Charley’s Sausage (local Pittsburgh ad). That’s small-time. Like Ryan Clark being the face of Honda North.

Meanwhile, Le’Veon Bell (after one good rookie year) has a deal with Pepsi. AB is probably trying to look into a wider market, and why not? If it doesn’t affect his play, I see no reason not to cash in on bigger and better ad deals.

  • Rick Hankey

I’ve listened to AB talk. I don’t think he is quite as articulate as either Bell or Clark. I think that might be the root of his endorsement problem. Though, I don’t claim to be an expert – that is only an opinion. Sometimes I think athletes forget that their bread is buttered playing their sport. My father once told “when things break, pay a professional to fix it”, to work extra at your profession to pay for it if you need to – it will save you headaches down the road. My point is (long way there), he should just concentrate on his craft and let the rest fall where it does – the money will come. Though, a communications class or two might not be a bad idea ;)

  • Rick Hankey

With all due respect, I don’t see anything “racially derived” in his statement. What does a Big Nose have to do with anyone’s color/race? Ridiculous statement. I have a big nose, and I’m not black. What the heck? Seems the race card is played so much these days it doesn’t hold merit anymore.

  • scott2443

i only hope brown dont get to star struck and become another wr who used to be the number 1 wr for steelers and now plays for another team and becomes just another wr in league..he can do great things if he can handle it all

  • LouPGH

Wow. Care to over react to pure speculation some more? I don’t agree with all the things AB says and does, but there is no evidence to suggest he’s unhappy with his contract. Maybe he doesn’t like Drew Rosenhaus? Who knows.

  • stellarsfan

Mock me all you want. But if you were to call Jay Z a big nose bandit to his face, im pretty damn sure he would consider your comment racist. My point is how virdin’s comments were tasteless and unfunny at best and ignorant and racist at worst. Also, I’m a mixed person so don’t try to make me out to be a bigot for noticing something offensive.

  • stellarsfan

Hold on Lou, we should really respect his opinion. I mean he’s calling us girls, idiots, and not true steelers fans. We’re clearly outmatched mentally and morally with this guy.

  • Weiss Chad

Sounds like Drew Rosenhaus you’re describing to me .Brown will be a steeler for as long as he produces.I believe Brown is a loyal steeler,as is many of their players.
