Steelers 2014 Schedule Released

The Pittsburgh Steelers 2014 schedule has now been released.

The Steelers will open the 2014 season at home against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, September 7th.

This year the Steelers will have five primetime games with the first one coming in Week 2 on Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens. That game is followed by another primetime game in Week 3 on Sunday night against the Carolina Panthers. Both of those games are on the road.

The Steelers have a late bye week this season and that will come in Week 12 following a Monday night game in Week 11 against the Tennessee Titans.

The Steelers will close out the 2014 season at home against the Cincinnati Bengals.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.
  • Paddy

Pretty easy schedule first 7 weeks. Last 5 will be tougher.

  • Superdriller316

What’s with the back to back away games?

  • mlc43

Wow, looks like a pretty easy schedule. Seems tailor made for a team in transition to work out some kinks and maybe do something. If the teams on that schedule are what most think they are and we struggle again…that’s a bad sign. See how it shakes out.

  • HardPunkKore

really realy late bye week, we’re used to the week 3/4/5 bye hopefully we can stay healthy…

  • Rick Rogers

Agreed. If we can’t make the playoffs with this sked, we certainly don’t deserve it. The tougher games toward the end of the season are perfect for getting in playoff trim.

    Go Steelers!

  • mlc43

I don’t mind that because it seems that the away games are, for the most part, not the tougher teams we face. We have the Colts, Saints and Chiefs at home.

  • http://batman-news.com MC

I like the late bye. A lil break to recoup before the home stretch.

  • Lewis

Wish one of those Bengals games came earlier.

  • mlc43

    No West Coast Away Games!!!

  • Lewis

    Thinking the same thing.

  • mlc43

I’m now a little more excited about the season. Things are set up well for us to have a chance.

  • pittsburghjoe

5 night games. That stinks…I hate the night games. I like the late bye though.

  • http://pittsburghsportsinat.blogspot.com/ bgsteelfan

Yeah, I hate when we get them like week 5.

  • HardPunkKore

Can’t wait for tomorrow’s podcast with a full breakdown and analysis of the schedule. The Dave’s got some homework to do!

  • chris ward

Two big Divisonal games to start the season. Important to get off to a good start.

  • steelster

Nothing is easy for a team that has been 8-8 for 2 years in a row. The steelers have lost to some bad teams.

  • Ryan Barton

I like the bye week before the home game against the Saints.

  • moderatelysane

Potentially five rookie QB on the schedule, not counting Dalton.

  • Matt Manzo

Seems like a fair 1st half and a tougher stretch at the end!

  • steelster

5 no way, more like 3 tops.

  • WilliamSekinger

2 games in the first 5 days of the season, and the Steelers typically don’t start well. Guess we will find out very quickly what kind of team the 2014 Steelers will be!

  • James Miles

    I am predecting 13-3

  • James Miles

The Stillers are going to be alot better than anyone can imagine. Go Stillers

  • moderatelysane

Cleveland, Cleveland, Jax, Houston, maybe Tampa or TN.

  • steelster

wow, that would be amazing. It means they are as good as the broncos and patriots. One can dream.

  • Steelers12328882

I say 10-6. Lose at Ravens, at Jags, Colts, Saints, at Bengals and Chiefs. That’s a tough end to the regular season.

  • RedCarpetDefense

    A 1-2 start wouldn’t be overly surprising.

  • pat

Atleast the short wk against the ravens is at the beginning of the yr and its a division team that we know pretty well so losing extra film days and practice wont hurt much

  • pat

Dont see jags beating ua but with that said didn’t see the Raiders or titans beating us last yr. Also for some reason the titans seem to have our number lately especially at home

  • steelster

I agree. The steelers are in transition and I see a 7-9 season.

  • steelster

So they will have a winning record on the road. I can’t see them beating the falcons on the road.

  • Steelers12328882

Jags are an up and coming team. Just taking a flier.

  • pat

We do always get shocked by a team or 2

  • Steelers12328882

I’d never predict 4 straight losses especially coming off a bye week. Although, I do have them losing 3 of them lol.

  • SFIC

I don’t mind the schedule at all. If we can stay healthy. Pouncey back to All Pro. DeCastro keeps progressing. JJ too. I think we can win the division. Maybe 11-5.

  • steelster

The steelers could beat the chiefs. I can see the chiefs taking a step backwards. They will have a much tougher schedule versus 2013.

  • dgh57

Wow, Bengals twice in the last 4 weeks of the season! At least we finish the regular season with the last 2 games at home.

  • Jacque Strappe

With 4 days rest and Baltimore on the road. No favors with the scheduling gods there.

  • SFIC

Someone can correct my geography if I’m wrong, but it appears we have only one long flight. Jacksonville. Not that long either.

  • Sean Mahoney

Baltimore opens against Cincy and we get the Brownies. I think the Ravens will be the more tired team going into that game.

  • steelster

Just looked at the bengals schedule. They have to play the patriots, saints and colts on the road. (0-3 right there).

  • SFIC

That’s what happens when you win the division.

  • Rollie

    You’re weird

  • Ike Evans

I think we go 12-4 if we protect Ben and Jarvis becomes what we think he can be….Tennessee, Cindy, first Baltimore game, and the saints game are the L’S..call me a optimist

  • PA2AK

Lol…what 9 teams do they lose to?

  • http://batman-news.com MC

Yep, its not how you start its how you finish, a bye late certainly helps with that imo.

  • http://batman-news.com MC

    My prediction is 10-6/11-5

  • steelster

it’s only one more loss than last year. The steelers may have 8 starters on defense with 2 years or less experience. That is scary. A possible limited pass rush could equal a lot of losses.

  • Reg Sayhitodabadguy Hunt

    I think 12/4 also

  • Zach

Call me the pessimist, but I see us going 9-7 or 8-8. Lot of pieces would have to fall in place to go 10-6 (including less injuries than previous yrs).

  • mlc43

    Ok…you’re a pessimist.

  • mlc43

I think that some people are forgetting how close the Steelers were to being a 10-6 team or better last year. It’s not like we were a weak 500 team. I think it would take all the wheels and engine to fall off for us to go 500 with this schedule. Now, that could happen, but lets have a little faith that it doesn’t.

  • frednash

    at first look

    11 wins

    5 losses

  • Nolrog

I really don’t like playing division games so early in the year. I prefer to see those in the middle and end of the year.

  • Jason

Blind optimism of fellow fans never gets old. Lol

  • NW86

Yeah but if you can’t have a bye week in the middle, I would rather see it late than early. I’ve always hated those early bye weeks. At least this way, IF they can turn it around and have a decent season, that bye will give them a chance to get healthy for that stretch playoff run.

  • James Miles

Ike, I don’t think you are an optimist. You have a clear vision into the future.

  • James Kling

Nice catch. Next longest @ Panthers.

  • PA2AK

They finished the year looking pretty good. Added some key players on and off the field. Those same 2 years or less guys got some great experience last year and it showed. So again…what 9 games do they lose. I think that is a little wild of a prediction. Was just wondering. I know that Steelers have people that aren’t proven, but have you looked at the schedule above yet?

  • PA2AK

As far as the pass rush…its also probable that the pass rush is increased significantly. Heyward starting full time, Worilds starting, JJ improving, not having a 100 year old man at DE. Not saying we will be called sack city after this season, but the pass rush looks to be on the upswing, or at worst, stagnant.

  • srdan

I dislike early bye weeks for two reasons.
1 Everyone on the team is more rested in teh early part of the season
2 I am really excited to watch football and am just getting in teh groove by the fifth week lol

  • srdan

Like you told me the other day, be careful who you try to reason with bud.

Some people are pessimists by nature and see a young team as a determent. More often than not, they are the same people screaming that we shouldn’t sign older players to contracts like we have been.

  • srdan

    which one? lol

  • srdan

I agree with you. The number one thing that could help us win some of those really close games is a tall target in the redzone. This would be my draft strategy. Our secondary was atrocious last year, lets assume we dont get a corner this year, and the secondary is as bad as last year (remember we upgraded at S), a tall receiver would have really helped in some of those stalled drives.

  • PA2AK

haha, you said it man. If you pay attention to Steelers in general, keyed in on this offseason, look at that schedule and say the result will be 8-8 or less…move to Cleveland.

  • http://thereactionblog.com Michael Stickings

What I like about this schedule, other than the fact that it doesn’t as of right now look all that tough, is that the hardest stretch comes at the end of the year, after the bye.

Let’s face it, this is a team that will likely go through some tough growing pains throughout the year, with new players, young players, players returning from injury, players hopefully taking the next step, older players in decline but still productive. It might take awhile to gel on both sides of the ball — and on special teams as well. My hope is that we’re a much better team by Week 13, when the tough stretch starts, than earlier on. I know that’s the hope for all teams, but it’s especially so in the case of a team that wants to be competitive while still in something of a period of transition.

  • Jeff

My early prediction (which I’m sure will change)….

    1. Browns…. W
    2. @Ravens…. L
    3. @Panthers… L
    4. Bucs…. W
    5. @Jags…. W
    6. @Browns… W
    7. Texans… W
    8. Colts… W
    9. Ravens… W
    10. @Jets… W
    11. @Titans…. L
    12. Saints… L
    13. @Bengals…. W
    14. @Falcons… L
    15. Cheifs…. W
    16. Bengals… W

I see them taking a step up this year and going 11-5….

  • srdan

The ravens games could easily be flipped, but I agree wiht you on the split. Week three is a pretty good matchup for us since their receivers are lacking. I would probably disagree with you on week 8. Also I would flip the wins/losses for weeks 14 and 15. The titans i think is the one game where you said “the steelers won’t show up” and I agree that we have 1-2 weeks like that.

All in all my prediction is close to yours, but one more loss. I think it will be somewhere between games 4 and 8. I think the browns game on the road will be tough.

  • WIINGY

well we have the Titans old coach now so I’m seeing a different outcome this year.

  • WIINGY

the key is scoring more points.
We know this D will give up around 22-25 pts a game.

  • steelster

I have been a steeler fan for over 40 years and why can’t I see them a little different than you. I have paid attention to the offseason and the steelers have only added one starter. If two starters get hurt like last year and other years the steelers lack the depth to recover. The steelers could lose 5 games on the road. Did you notice every road game is back to back.

  • steelster

yes and that is why the steelers need to add a receiver to the draft. This is the most inexperienced defense the steelers have had in a decade.

  • srdan

What some fans fail to realize is that the NFL is changing as well as the steelers. You don’t get to have quality depth everywhere anymore because of free agency. There are few teams every year that have it, and that is because they did well in a draft or two. Then four years later those players move on to start elsewhere. Or you mortgage your future.

As far as the road games the furthest we travel is jacksonville, and the only out game outside of the EST is Nashville.

  • srdan

-Browns…. W They are young and lost some leadership that will be hard to make up early in the season
-@Ravens…. L We usually split the year with them.
-@Panthers… W I think we win this one because their receivers are bad which makes them a good matchup for us.
    -Bucs…. W Mess
    -@Jags…. W Mess
-@Browns… L I think we have a hard time being prepared week to week. Some games we just don’t show up…i’m pickin this one as my one out of two.
-Texans… W They don’t have a QB and we have Ben
-Colts… L They have the better QB and it’s not cold yet
-Ravens… W We split. Hopefully flip this win to week 2 to give our young team some confidence
    -@Jets… W Geno or Vick?
-@Titans…. L The other game the steelers dont show up as they look forward to the Saints
    -Saints… L The saints
. -@Bengals…. W I think we take both games from them this year. I am not impressed by their QB or their lack of leadership, especially later in the year. We are lucky to get them twice late.
-@Falcons… W This will be a really tough game. I think our pass rush will be in full gear by this game. I could go either way on this one.
-Cheifs…. L Maybe flip the previous week for a loss, and this one for a win since this game is at home.
-Bengals… W They are a pretender by every week 16

    10-6

  • PA2AK

Well i guess if you are looking at it like the steelers will have injuries at positions they can’t fill and no other team has depth or injury issues…i see where you get your 9 losses. The schedule is not overly difficult and like srdan mentioned, the travel isn’t as big a deal as it has been in the past. Just looking at the talent level of these teams and how many young/rookie qb’s we’ll face…its hard to justify 9 losses as a prediction (looks like you are having the same difficulty here). I just wandered who you saw us loosing to. If you came up with 9 losses, ya had to go through the schedule in your head right?

  • srdan

I agree. Our secondary was atrocious last eyar and we were still in a lot of games. We need ot get better in the redzone to improve this team. Either get a tall target in the passing game or taylor lewan and try to get it done by overpowering teams with three numbe ones on the oline.

  • srdan

And only one game out of the EST.

  • steelster

yes, and maybe I should have said 8 losses, just didn’t want to go with a 3rd 8-8 year. I look at it this way, if they have a winning year and make the playoffs I’m very surprised because I was expecting a bad year. Also, if they go 7-9 they would get to pick around number 10 in the 2015 draft. I believe the young defense will come together in 2015 and the steelers will make the playoffs then. Remember back in the 80′s the steelers had some rough years before they were good again. Every team goes through cycles and transition years.

  • Jeff

Originally I had the split switched for the ravens, which I believe was the result last year, but decided to go with each home team winning this year…

I also originally had us losing to the colts in week 8, but was feeling a little optimistic… I agree that the Browns road game could be tough, but considering they don’t even have a starting QB right now I’m sticking with the sweep

  • Jeff

For some reason I don’t like the Texans game either….

  • PA2AK

I don’t have a problem with slump years. they did it under cowher’s watch as well (even worse than just finishing .500 and out of the playoffs). at this point i’m just really confident that they finish with 10 wins or better.

  • srdan

    cool with me.

I just listened to the podcast and they made some great points. If you have time check it out.
-We play our first two games within 4 days of each other. Good and bad, but we get our thursday game out of the way.
    -furthest we travel is jacksonville
-only out of time zone game is nashville
-for us unlucky fans that don’t have KDKA, we should still get to see a lot of games at home without directv due to 5 prime time games. And i dont think they mentioned it, but I believe all 5 are before they start flexing.

  • steelster

ok, well I hope you are right and I’m wrong.

  • PA2AK

heeeey something hopeful out of you! sorry i’m a bit of a ball-buster sometimes.

  • steelster

actually, I was trying to end the discussion in a polite way, i just state my case and then try to move on.

  • steelster

    good assessment.

  • Lucus Rodriguez

    WK1. W
    WK2. L
    WK3. W
    WK4. W
    WK5. W
    WK6. W
    WK7. W
    WK8. L
    WK9. W
    WK10. W
    WK11. W
    WK13. L
    WK14. L
    WK15. W
    WK16. L
    WK17. W
    so 11-5

  • pat

I see everyone has us losing @ Baltimore but ya forget they play on a short wk also and more than likely have no clue who is starting at rb and with the physicality of these games rb is important and we got two monsters

  • steelster

They have Benard pierce who could start on many teams. He might be better than ray rice.

  • http://batman-news.com MC

Both, im not that good at predictions haha

  • IckyD

I’m amazed that the Steelers are being permitted a late-season bye.

Ours have been in Week 4-5 for so long i can’t recall our last bye- week so late in the season.

And apparently no suspension for Ray Rice; for that matter there’s been nearly no mention of his actions or arrest at all. Figures.

And to think- Ben did nothing at all and got a six-week suspension. Different strokes for different folks in the NFL it seems.
