Steelers Hosting CB Michigan State CB Darqueze Dennard, Notre Dame DE Stephon Tuitt For Pre Draft Visits

According to Bob Labriola of Steelers Digest, the Pittsburgh Steelers are entertaining two more pre draft visitors on Wednesday as Michigan State cornerback Darqueze Dennard and Notre Dame defensive end Stephon Tuitt are both in town.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Kevin Colbert both attended the Pro Days of both Dennard and Tuitt. Dennard is considered by many to be the top cornerback in the draft class this year after registering four interceptions, 10 pass breakups, five quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles in 2013.

In 2013, Tuitt, who measured in at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine at 6054 and 304 pounds, was unable to work at his Pro Day due to recently having surgery to repair a stress fracture in his foot.

In 13 games last season, Tuitt registered 49 total tackles of which nine were for losses. He also had 7.5 sacks on the season. Several believe that Tuitt is a first round prospect that would project as a defensive end in a 3-4 defense.

If you could get these two guys in the 1st and 2nd round, I would love it. I don’t think Tuitt will be available in the second round, though at 46. Maybe if they were willing to trade up.

A lot of good players in this draft, especially at the backend of the 1st Rd, wish we could trade back and still get someone like Kyle Fuller, Shazier or Tuitt

  • Kenneth Wilt

Strangely enough…it wouldn’t surprise me if this is exactly what happens. I could see them getting both.

  • rey perez

I would love to get tuitt in the 2nd steeler fans can dream lol but crazier things have happened, hell we weren’t suppose to get markus Wheaton in the 3rd last year and we did

  • StrengthOfVictory

At the rate these are being posted, I’m half expecting to see “Steelers Hosting NT Your Mom For Pre Draft Visit.”

  • Kysteeler

*Insert inappropriate joke about your mom

  • Kysteeler

I agree, a trade down would be so lovely. At 15, unless someone falls, your almost over drafting someone at that spot (well at least it seems that way).

  • StrengthOfVictory

Inserting already? Well YOU certainly don’t waste any time!

    (Inappropriate enough? 🙂

I be very happy with Tuitt. In a trade down if possible. Let’s get this pass rush going and stuff the run.

They seem to be bringing in quite a few guys that the experts say will be drafted either lower in the 1st round or early in the 2nd. Interesting. Hopefully they can pull off that trade down that I want with San Fran. That would get them 4 guys between 1-29 and 3rd round comp. I believe that will be the meat of the draft, where if you draft well they may all turn into quality starters.

Of all the trade scenarios, I believe the Steelers – 49ers is the most likely. And makes the most sense for both parties. The 49ers need a stud CB. We need their extra 2nd round pick at 2.24.

And the players expected to be there at 1.30 fit right in our wheelhouse for value and need. (Tuitt, Shazier, Varrett) (or possibly trade our 4.15 and 1.30 to move up and get Benjamin or Fuller).

I know everyone here wants Dennard or Gilbert, but the 49ers NEED Dennard or Gilbert. Remember, we have a starting CB in Cortez Allen, we’re actually looking for a very high quality #2 CB. Pierre Desir, Stan Jean Baptiste, Jaylen Watkins, are all viable possibilities.

I think Tuitt is now the fastest rising dark horse need for the Steelers. I believe the Steelers were caught off guard somewhat by their losses on the DL this off season. And are now in “orange alert mode” (if not “red”). I have to think a trade up (into the early 2nd for Tuitt is a possibility).

Tuitt is absolutely the #1 perfect fit for the Steelers DE void in this year’s draft. (Better than Hageman IMO.) He is long and strong with great anchor and ability to shed/tackle against the run. He also offers a nice bull rush to collapse the pocket, and can bat down a pass or two. And most of all, he can flex down to the DT spot in sub packages like Heyward does.

Tuitt is actually very similar to Heyward in many ways. And we know how the Steelers feel about Cam. You just don’t fid many guys on earth who are 6’5″, 305 pounds, with 35″ arms, who can bench 31 reps and actually run a little.

Can you imagine a sub package with Heyward and Tuitt as our two DT’s? with Worilds and Jones on the edges? With Timmons and Polamalu and Shamarko and Mitchell all roaming the middle? With Cortez and Dennard and Ike at the 3 CB spots?

  • blackandgoldBullion

Yes, and it would be great to get Fuller, but if he’s gone, my next fave is SJB.

  • Shannon Stephenson

Tuitt is my man crush this year and you hit a home run on why!!!

  • MC

I was thinking the same. Ahhh i’m getting excited for this draft.

With the moves we have made this offseason im thinking the goal is to trade down in the 1st and use that extra pick to move up in the 2nd grab Tuitt and Shazier. I also see us making another move to get a 3rd round to grab a cb and get a cb with or 3rd comp as well.
