Steelers Kevin Colbert, Mike Tomlin On Hand For LSU Pro Day

The LSU Pro Day is taking place on Wednesday and Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert and head coach Mike Tomlin are present for it, according to Albert Breer of the NFL Network.

Colbert and Tomlin are really getting bang for their buck as offensive draft prospects Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Jeremy Hill and Zach Mettenberger are all on display.

The interest in Beckham and Landry is obvious as the Steelers are almost certain to draft a wide receiver in the first three rounds of the draft.

As far Mettenberger goes, if you believe the report made by Chris Bradford of the Beaver County Times several weeks ago, the Steelers have some level of interest in the LSU quarterback, who is still rehabbing a serious knee injury suffered last season.

The last time the Steelers drafted a player out of LSU was in 1998 when guard Alan Faneca was selected in the first round.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.
  • Eric MacLaurin

The qbs in the later rounds this year really make me regret using that pick last year

  • srdan

Racking up the frequent flier miles.

After this trip, you’d have to think they are well aquainted with each other and a draft strategy is being forged. I’m expecting big things!

  • Bill Sechrengost

They have some guys available on defense, too, that aren’t too bad, Anthony Johnson and Ergo Ferguson DL, as well as Craig Loston, Safety and Lamin Barrow, LB. Trai Turner is an OG that looks good, too. Lots to look at here.

  • Ike Evans

LSU leads college football in awesome names Ego Ferguson, Barkevious Mingo, Tyran Mathieu (sounds like a game of thrown character)

  • SumnerYoung

LSU should be a must stop every year for the Steelers. Like Alabama, LSU is an NFL factory.

  • Melly

    i’ll take 2 chickens!!!!!

  • Ike Evans

Something wrong with you’re leg, boy!!!!

  • Brian K

Florida State had about every Steeler need covered at their Pro Day. Benjamin, Freeman, Smith, Jones, Joyner, Brooks

  • Johnny Loose

true, i was pulling for us to get Eric Reid last year. I’m ok with what we have now. Didn’t like seeing the 49rs get him though

  • Paul Barracliffe

As a lifelong Steelers fan I am beating the table to pieces for AAron Donald to fulfill our 2 biggest needs: Gamechanger/5 tech defensive end. Will someone give me a good reason why we shouldn’t?

  • steelster

How many nfl defensive ends are game changer’s. Not even 10, heck maybe not even 5. Talk about 1st round risk.

  • Douglas Andrews

Was just about to post something similar Mettenberger would have a been a good pick for the Steelers to develop as an eventual successor.

  • Paul Barracliffe

Cameron Heyward is getting to be a great end. Idk but I remember our run d fell off significantly when AAron Smith left. If we could have 2 DE that take up blocks and rush the passer we would improve against the run/pass expediently.

  • steelster

In the 3-4 defense the DE main responsibility is to contain the run. The pass rushing is done by the OLB’s. I hope they take a DE but not until at least the 3rd round.
