Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert has managed to use every bit of available salary cap space this offseason. Following the Tuesday signing of free agent cornerback Brice McCain, the team should now have just under $32,000 in available cap room, according to the NFLPA.
McCain signed a one-year qualifying contract on Tuesday and while he was given a base salary of $730,000 and a $65,000 signing bonus. His 2014 cap charge will be $635,000 as a result.
To update you on the contract signed this past Friday by running back LeGarrette Blount, he will have a 2014 cap charge of $1.375 million. Blount received a signing bonus of $950,00 and a first-year base salary of $900,000.
To be exact, the Steelers should only have $31,934.00 in available cap space left and some of that money will go towards the signing bonuses given to the undrafted players that will be added in May.
The Steelers will receive another $8 million in cap space come June 2nd when the release of linebacker LaMarr Woodley becomes official and they will need a little bit of that to sign their draft picks.
