2014 NFL Draft – Day Two Discussion Thread

Day one of the 2014 NFL Draft is now behind us and Ohio State linebacker Ryan Shazier is the newest member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The first round discussion thread went so well on Thursday that we will try it again today for rounds two and three that get underway Friday evening.

Feel free to continue discussing what happened on Thursday in this thread and project what you believe will happen in rounds two and three. All I ask is that you stay away from personal attacks or trolling as I have been known to have a quick trigger finger.

Thank you for a fantastic Thursday and I look forward to serving your needs again Friday night. You may now remove your seat belts and move around the cabin freely.

  • moderatelysane

I say don’t waste a 2 on the cb remaining.

  • Jason Vancil

I’m on board with Cody Latimer.

  • StrengthOfVictory

Again…should we all but eliminate the names of WR candidates that the Steelers haven’t met with? To my knowledge, that nixes Jordan Matthews and Davante Adams. (Latimer, who I like, only had one Steelers’ rep at his pro day that I know of.) They brought in both Moncrief and Bryant.

But I have to wonder if the receiver they’re targeting is Bruce Ellington (small, fast, shifty, and kick-return capable) who they also brought in. He could be picked in the third or maybe even later. He’s more along the lines of a Beckham-type, but not quite as elite a talent.

  • Ra’Shede Hageman, Stephon Tuitt, Lucas Nix are my votes to round two. But if were talking sub package then Hageman/Tuitt

  • steeltown

    RD2: Tuitt/Nix, Latimer/Matthews, D.Lawrence/Attaouchu

  • StrengthOfVictory

    Bless you. 🙂

  • richheddleson

I think some are vastly underestimating the quality WR that Lance Moore is, and the potential that Marcus Wheaton has this year. Any receiver we draft will be the 4th receiver on the roster. He will not start or beat out any of the top 3. Even Antonio Brown struggled in his rookie year. Many weeks, he didn’t even get a hat.

  • steeltown

Thinking back, I don’t believe they brought Wheaton in for a visit

  • Eric MacLaurin

My top Steelers options for the 2nd.

    Trent Murphy
    Jenkins
    Amaro
    Matthews
    Lattimer

  • richheddleson

Don’t be surprised if the Steelers take a defensive lineman in the 2nd round, and a TE in the 3rd, leaving some of yo even more frustrated that they didn’t take your coveted WR or CB. How did Curtis Brown work out in the 3rd round? Or Limas Sweed in the 2nd?

  • richheddleson

We must take the best player available, other than QB or OL.

  • Eric MacLaurin

There should be good value in the third round at CB. I would try to get a higher 3 this year in exchange for a 3 next year and maybe a 5 and 6 this year.

  • richheddleson

With the quality of this year’s draft, I would trade next year’s 1st to get into the top of the 2nd. They would never trade a 1st though.

  • Dave Bradley

If we want a good pass rusher, we better get one early

  • Weiss Chad

I hope they take d lineman in second and hope his name is tuitt

  • Eric MacLaurin

That probably makes sense but I don’t think I would have the courage. The fact that we would probably draft in the high 20’s next year means we wouldn’t be moving down too many spots so it does make sense for a lot of reasons.

  • cencalsteeler

    Round 2. Crichton
    Round 3. Landry

  • blackandgoldBullion

Good and I would add Trent Murphy possibly. Also I would eliminate Nix because there’s a sleeper NT that should be had much later, perhaps even round 7. His name is Tenny Palopoi from Utah. He;s strong like an ox and can still get stronger, and Utah has been like an interior D line factory, with recent NFLer’s like Soliai, Pouha, Fanene, and Kruger all coming from there. Don’t tell anyone but the Steelers though.

  • Mike Frantz

They generally (again, generally) don’t bring in guys that they got a good look at and interviewed already at the Senior Bowl (hageman is an exception this year). So I don’t think you can necessarily take Mathews off the list. They bring in Juniors most often. Latimer was an interesting one because he could barely do anything at his pro day (still recovering) so I’m not sure what to read into the lack of participation.

  • Paddy

Gotta be be NIX TUITT or NIKLAS or BRYANT today

  • Rob

Agreed! By the way, nice name Dr Doom! I used to go by Dr Banner

  • steeltown

    Me like Landry

  • Rob

Tuitt, hagemen, nix, Austen sefarian-sefarian Jenkins, lee, Latimer, Matthews–in that order

  • Rob

    D line!

  • Andy Kees

If a solid D linemen is there, such as Tuitt, I take him. If not, I go ahead and get that WR. I like Moncrief a lot for his size and speed.

  • Yiz

Me too, I like this kids athletic capabilities.

  • Rob

I think we could get Crichton in the third

  • WilliamSekinger

Pens playing at the same time. Get your ‘previous’ button warmed up on that remote!

  • SFIC

Yes, but this holds true for pretty much every position….very rarely do our draft picks start come game 1….later in the season? Maybe

  • vacaciones

I agree we can get a 2nd and 3rd or maybe 2 2nd with San Francisco

  • grw1960

I Would like to see them draft a WR.
However; there are still some DL prospects with late 1st to early 2nd round grades still in the board. Manly Nix ,Tuitt and Hageman. Plus some DE/OLB types.
So I thinking either DL or WR unless they have a CB they value higher than we know.
Round 2 would be the perfect setting for a trade down. If they could get two 3ds or a lower 2nd round and a fourth round. Then if they had two 4ths, they could trade back into the 3.

  • Nolrog

What time does it start tonight, and how many minutes between picks? Why are the Steelers 14 in this round, and 15 in the first?

  • Jacque Strappe

    Agree

  • steeltown

    7pm EST, I believe 5minutes per pick

  • Jacque Strappe

I think Tuitt is the right pick in the 2nd round if he’s there. If they go WR, I would love to see Latimer. But I think Matthews from Vandy has Steeler written all over him.

  • Brendan

Tuitt and Matthews are my top two.

  • Jesse Murray

If Latimer is there, PS need to Usain Bolt to podium.

  • Mike Frantz

Players I would be ok taking in the 2nd (each position in order of preference):

    DL
    Tuitt
    Hageman

    WR
    Latimer
    Robinson
    Bryant
    Lee

    OLB
    Crichton
    Lawrence

    TE
    Amaro
    ASJ

That’s 10 players. Gotta figure a couple QB’s, and OL, maybe RB get shoved in there. I don’t like the DB’s available at this point. In 3rd round I want DL, WR (whichever we didn’t take) or CB.

  • shawn

i think brown is a very good pick in the 6th or 7th … hope they get him !

  • Steel LJ

Agreed it will be D-Line pick here if I had any money I would bet on it may be lol….3rd round will be the WR pick

  • Agustin-ARG

    2nd round DL — 3rd CB
2015 draft: 1st round WR or TE

  • Biggie

    Tuitt, Nix, Matthews, Robinson, Lattimer

  • cp72

    2. Tuitt
    3. Landry

This would make me very happy.

  • wdhammer

    D-line -2, then a WO …

  • steeltown

    Indeed

  • Sack Master

Lance Moore is old and, has a good bit of mileage, and doesn’t know the offense. If they draft Matthews, or Adams, that player would be the #2 receiver fom day 1 for me. I hope Moore still has a lot to offer, but i’m not convinced.

  • steelster

I think the steelers will take nix which is a solid pick. Tuitt will go within the first five picks. The guy I hope drops to them is Latimer.

  • Sack Master

    Me too.

  • Matt Manzo

If it’s one of those guys I’d be happy!

  • steeltown

Ryan Shazier has alopecia, which is why he’s bold and appears to have no eyebrows.

  • Matt Manzo

Everyone seems to like DL and WR in 2.
If we wait til 3 to go CB, who are our options?
Desir and SBJ will be gone, right?
Watkins, Gaines anyone else? I’m not as high on McGill anymore. I like Rashad Reynolds, and Breeland but the might be 4th rounders?
    3rd comp makes it tricky!
Maybe we see another trade up into the 3rd?
Starting to think that we can wait til next year or the late rounds this year to get the “tall” WR, but I’d hate to miss out on Matthews or Robinson if they are available!
I’m all over the place today! I want CB, WR and DL but can’t decide who or when?!

  • Matt Manzo

Crichton in the 3rd and Matthews/Robinson in 2nd would be awesome!

  • Kevin Gobleck

I could also see Hageman, or Robinson

  • Brian Tollini

I am going to say DE Hageman in round 2 and Desir CB in round 3

  • steelster

Dontae Johnson is a big and fast cb. Not sure if he lasts till the end of the third.

  • moderatelysane

Not sure how that would happen when we invested a high pick in Wheaton last year and he’s had a head start year. I love Jordan Matthews, but we really don’t need him as much as DE or CB.

  • James Christensen

That would be awesome. I think Desir isn’t likely to make it to the end of 3. I have a feeling they go DL or WR in 2, then take a couple of corners in 4 and 5.

  • Weiss Chad

I wouldn’t mind getting lemarcus Joyner,Steven Tuitt,orJordan Matthews in second and Jarvis Landry, jaylen Watkins,or Jackson Jeffcoat in third.

  • Nolrog

Why would their draft position change?

  • Big White

Hopefully the pick tonight will have actually played in college the position the Steelers are drafting him for.

  • Big White

    Love them Stanford guys.

  • AzheDraven

    Kony Ealy?

  • Matt Manzo

That’s right! I forgot about him! Have a feeling there’s gonna be a run on CBs in the 2nd.

  • AzheDraven

    Kony Ealy? Why not?

  • Jake Marion

    wouldn’t mind a LT

  • matt truscello

Good points…. i’m still shocked we drafted a LB first roung

  • matt truscello

I’m really surprised we drafted a LB first. I thought for sure it would be a DB, preferably a CB

  • Jason Vancil

Wexell is really pumping Scott Crichton as Steelers pick. Thinks the Steelers really like him. Thinks he can grow in DE.

  • matt truscello

I THOUGHT WE SHOULD’VE WENT AFTER A CORNER

  • Agustin-ARG

2nd pick, under the radar like Shazier: Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri.

  • steepens

I wouldn’t mind going for tuitt, nix, and hageman in 2nd, WR in 3rd, CB in 4 and 5

  • steelster

    who? Dennard, no thanks

  • steelster

    yes, could be the pick.

  • steelster

If the steelers pass on Latimer I hope the ravens don’t pick him that would suck.

  • steeltown

Definitely, I think he’s going to go early Rd2

  • Josh Knepshield

Allen Robinson, Cody Latimer, &/or Stanley Jean-Baptiste

  • Brian Miller

    Let’s do this gentlemen!!!

  • Brian Miller

The Dos Equis is open, the lime is cut, and I am ready to roll….let’s go Steeler Nation!!!

  • Brian Miller

Yes sir, may I have another?!?

  • Brendon Glad

I would like to see Tuitt fall to us. And hopefully Phillip Gaines is avail. in round 3.

  • James Christensen

Cowboys want Ealy, or another pass rusher.

  • James Christensen

A good group of receivers left. Latimer, Matthews, Robinson, Moncrief.

  • Jason Vancil

    Dallas wants Demarcus Lawrence

  • James Christensen

Alright, let’s get some QBs off the board, and OL, and more 4-3 players. Every CB, 3-4 DL and WR off the board will cause me pain.

  • RW

    Ditto.

  • RW

    Who does cleveland want?

  • Jason Vancil

    OLineman

  • Jason Vancil

    Bitonio for Browns??

  • James Christensen

Yes! They NEED a WR, and grabbed an OL. Good for us.

  • westcoasteeler

    Can’t believe it

  • Jason Vancil

    David Carr to Raiders

  • westcoasteeler

    Carr to Oakland? Damn Jason

  • Jason Vancil

    Falcons take Rashede Hageman.

  • Jason Vancil

    Tampa Bay takes Austin Sefarian-Jenkins

  • Jason Vancil

    Marquise Lee to Jags

  • Jason Vancil

    Kyle Van Noy to Lions

  • RW

    Interesting pick

  • Jason Vancil

    Rams take Lamarcus Joyner

  • RW

    STL? Was there a trade?

  • Jason Vancil

    Yeah with Buffalo.

  • Steven Vincent

Either NT Nix or DE Stephan Tuitt

  • RW

Still could go WR or CB

  • Jason Vancil

Jordan Matthews to Eagles, who trade up to Tennessee spot.

  • Jason Vancil

Teams are trading up for specific targets.

  • Jason Vancil

NY Giants and Buffalo both will go OFF Line.

  • RW

Wow, so we should have some good choices then. Awesome.

  • Jason Vancil

Yea definitely. They are spoiled for choice here it looks like.

  • blackandgoldBullion

Love that guy. If he’s as good as I think he is, he should thrive in that system.

  • Jason Vancil

Steelers might trade down? Pick up an extra 3rd or 4th?

  • Steven Vincent

other than Moncreif all the best WR are gone. No really good CB left. I vote for a real NT, Nix, so we can move McClendon to DE where he is much better fit.

  • RW

Is that for sure or postulation on your part?

  • Steven Vincent

what does that mean go off line

  • RW

    offensive line

  • Jason Vancil

Remember we are looking at 51 spots between our 2nd and 3rd. That is like a Round and a half

  • westcoasteeler

    Nice

  • Jason Vancil

    Speculation.

  • Matt Manzo

I missed the first part of the 2nd!
Looks like ARobinson and Tuitt and Nix still available?

  • RW

    Latimer too

  • Steven Vincent

    ok

  • Matt Manzo

Right on! Aaaahhhh WR, DL or CB?

  • RW

tough to know, but I’m excited.

  • Jason Vancil

    Sorry. yea Offensive Line.

  • westcoasteeler

    Probably another LB’er lol

  • RW

haha dont give me a heart attack, I just came to grips with this one..

  • James Christensen

Trade down! You’ve got Tuitt, Nix, Robinson, Latimer, Moncrief, Gaines…

  • westcoasteeler

    Right!

  • Jason Vancil

    Guys its Stephon Tuitt

  • Weiss Chad

    Come on Tuitt or latimer

  • Matt Manzo

I actually just walked into some announcer comprising about the last pick being a LB and how the team should’ve got a CB, totally thought he was talking about us! Was so happy he wasnt!

  • westcoasteeler

    I’ll take it

  • Jason Vancil

Steelers jumped immediately after Seattle. Its Tuitt.

  • Agustin-ARG

¿trade down? tuitt, ealy or latimer!!

  • Jason Vancil

They have made the pick. Its Tuitt

  • ergomesh

    comon tuitt

  • RW

    Alright!

  • Jason Vancil

The Steelers pick Stephon Tuitt. DE Notre Dame

  • Steven Vincent

Tuitt or NIx now please. Our D line is very very thin. Major hole.

  • westcoasteeler

    Tuitt’s gonna crush

  • Weiss Chad

Woo hop tell me this true bro!!!

  • ergomesh

    Comon dont screw us hawks

  • westcoasteeler

If they’re not paying attention so be it

  • Jason Vancil

I assure you. It is done

  • Intropy

    Robinson and Adams

  • blackandgoldBullion

So do think the Steelers wish to rebuild that fierce defense again? Oh, Yeah!

  • ergomesh

trade up to 45 for Tuitt give a 7th 🙂

  • westcoasteeler

    Maybe no trade partner?

  • Weiss Chad

    I remember u yesterday SWEET!!!!

  • steeltown

    Don’t toy with my emotions

  • Weiss Chad

    They got him

  • Jason Vancil

Mike Mitchell, Ryan Shazier, Stephon Tuitt—-can’t say the Steelers are trying to rebuild that D.

  • RW

Dave put it on his twitter feed. Must be official

  • westcoasteeler

    What CB in the 3rd?

  • steeltown

I’ll go attempt a backflip now

  • Weiss Chad

It don’t get no better.Weclome to Pittsburgh mr tuitt

  • Jason Vancil

    Seattle has already picked.

  • ergomesh

    wait we get him?

  • westcoasteeler

    It’s done

  • RW

    yep!!

  • Weiss Chad

    Yes

  • ergomesh

    TOTALLY AWESOME!
grab a CB round 3 and 4 and we are loaded

  • Jason Vancil

A lot of picks away, but should be a good one.

  • Steven Vincent

Cool I’m happy. Still would like Nix if he is available in the 3rd or 4th

  • steeltown

I cant F#&$ing believe we just got Tuitt in the 2nd Rd!!!… simply Awesome

  • ergomesh

lol notre dam guy picks a notre dam guy

  • Jason Vancil

Still wish we had our own 3rd. Damn.

  • ergomesh

    only 21 too nice

  • blackandgoldBullion

    How sweet would that be?

  • steeltown

    Im in shock

  • RW

Yeah. Front 7 went from pretty good to downright intimidating.

  • westcoasteeler

    Can’t stop laughing…

  • RW

Would be nice, but I have a feeling some guys are gonna drop far. I’m happy enough with these two picks right now to feel better about the upcoming season, but would love a big red zone threat and a lengthy CB both in the third. ANyway, we’ll see

  • Jason Vancil

Now work your magic Coach Mitchell.

  • cp72

I love it. I am a Notre Dame fan. I have watched Tuitt for 3 years. He’s perfect for us. STUD.

  • ergomesh

ravens keep matching our picks lol

  • cp72

Come Landry in the 3rd. Then it would be a great night.

  • RW

With slightly less compelling ones 🙂

  • Agustin-ARG

no WR….tomlin trust on markus, great decision. And may be we hit a HR Darrius Heyward

  • westcoasteeler

    Plus the late round talent.

  • Brendon Glad

One down, one to go!!! Love it!!! He looks way too much like Aaron Smith for me not to be excited about him. Plus, fills a need. A+ pick in my book.

  • Weiss Chad

    Like Landry in third also

  • Brendon Glad

I got what I wanted on Tuitt. So thus far, i’m pretty excited.

  • Jason Vancil

Just FYI on Tuitt. No Off field concerns. His mother is a Deputy Sherriff and apparently was strict.

  • steeltown

    Landry or Desir maybe

  • ergomesh

so we got a preacher and sheriffs son in rounds 1 and 2. building from the inside out !

  • Brendon Glad

I’m hoping Philip Gaines is avail in round 3. If we snag him, I’ll call it a fantastic day. But I do expect us to go CB in round 3. Victor Hampton is another name I’m intrigued with….and the Lindenwood CB.

  • Jason Vancil

Yea. I don’t always put so much stock in that, but it at least shows they had a certain accountable environment growing up.

  • Reg Sayhitodabadguy Hunt

I think our def is back guys but did you notice the copy cats in bmore we go lb they go lb we go dl they go dl

  • Jeff

    LOVE the pick.

  • cp72

Yes would be totally fine with Desir or Jalen Watkins.

  • Brendon Glad

At least they aren’t jumping us like they did with Ed Reed.

  • steelster

The Texans were very interested in Tuitt. The steelers got great value with this pick.

  • ergomesh

suprise the harbaugh brothers didn’t make a coup

  • Brendon Glad

I do….but usually only in a negative way. In other words I dislike when the players I root for start their NFL careers with bad character marks. But understand that on draft day, usually the Positive slant will be emphasized by the team who takes him. As in, with Chris Rainey, it was emphasized how Pouncey’s parents took him in and changed his life….but in reality (so far) his bad side off the field outweighed his good

  • Matt Manzo

Those are the 2 I’m hoping for too!

  • Reg Sayhitodabadguy Hunt

Its still early don’t jinx it

  • westcoasteeler

I’m still walkjng around shocked. Both picks were shocking. The Steelers’ plan may be unfolding accordingly.

  • Intropy

Let’s not forget Baron Batch. Liked rooting for the guy. Shame he never quite cut it.

  • Brendon Glad

I agree. I’m not saying he will be Aaron Smith, but you can’t help but think about Aaron Smith when you see Tuitt on the videos I’ve seen. He’s built EXACTLY like how we like our DE’s to be built. Long, but with what looks like a strong base. Closes well once he gets free. I love it.

  • Intropy

Hmm just realized that could be read wrong. By “shame” I meant “it’s unfortunate” not that there something shameful about trying and only almost being one of the best 100 football runners in the world.

  • Jason Vancil

There went one WR I really liked Davante Adams. Another barely 21 yr old kid.

  • Jason Vancil

Me too. Just recently saw a thing on him. He is back in Lubbock, TX doing his art and mentoring young kids. He is a good egg.

  • Jason Vancil

    And there goes Cody Latimer.

  • Matt Manzo

    Latimer to Denver!

  • Brendon Glad

No, only a little bit. The Steelers put up smokescreens less than most, because they like to get a better feel for their character one-on-one….so I’m sure they have a decent % of guys they bring in as guys they draft. But if they really feel like they have an “in” on value, (as in, they really like someone, but think they have an excellent value-play in place), they may lay off bringing him in. Of course, I’m just surmising, but it makes sense to me.

  • Matt Manzo

I’m starting to think maybe we like Colvin or Exum?
Take a CB who can play now in rnd 3 and Colvin or Exum in 4 or 5? Might still have a chance to get Enunwa, Janis or Beau Allen?

  • cp72

Anyone feeling Bryant from Clemson? Don’t know if we can totally ignore corner for the first three rounds can we?

  • Agustin-ARG

latimer to denver and manning…¿ofensive rookie of 2014?

  • Matt Manzo

I love Bryants size and speed but he drops a lot of balls.

  • Reg Sayhitodabadguy Hunt

I actually like m.bryant hoping we get this kid But we really need to get cbs so i don’t know if i like him that much

  • Brendon Glad

I’ve got Jeff Janis on my radar late. 6’3″ highly productive WR from Saginaw Valley State. Ran in the high 4.3 low 4.4 range. So athleticism, size, and ability to catch lots of balls are there. But on watching his highlight tape, the dude was wide-open constantly…so it’s really hard to tell what he can do. He’s projected in the 6th-7th…I’d like that. But John Brown would be nice down there too. And as a guy who’s lived my whole life in KS, he would have sentimental value….:-)

  • Jason Vancil

Has Louis Nix dropped of the face of the earth? Injury questions?

  • Jason Vancil

Jags loading up on WR’s Marquise Lee and Allen Robinson.

  • Aric Brown

talk about a luxury pick by the patriots

  • Richard Edlin

Gerry Dulac’s confident statements about a tall receiver in the first two rounds look a bit premature …

  • Matt Manzo

Who’s gonna take a CB in rnd 3? Do we have to worry about a run?

  • Richard Edlin

There are about two dozen CBs rated similarly from here … there will be several at a similar level available at the end of the 3rd and midway through the 4th. Wouldn’t be surprised if CB waits until the 4th …

  • WilliamSekinger

Wait Nix is still on the board? I still like a CB with their comp pick, but Nix still being there is odd.

  • Jason Vancil

Yep. You just can never know how it is gonna unfold. Don’t think they ever thought Tuitt would reach 46

  • Jason Vancil

    Must be injury questions.

  • RW

Don’t know how I would feel about Nix now, even if he miraculously fell to us (which he won’t)

  • WilliamSekinger

    Must be

  • Jason Vancil

He did have a knee meniscus problem, but I thought he got it cleaned up & was ok.

  • Tom

Morgan Moses….best beard of the draft

  • Jason Vancil

I think the Steelers like CB Bashaud Breeland. Doubt he makes it to 97 though.

  • westcoasteeler

    He waited quite a while…

  • Matt Manzo

Are the pics above updated for you guys? My screen still stops at Steelers pick.

  • WilliamSekinger

All the writers busy writing. They haven’t updated in a while

  • Matt Manzo

He might be there! He’s kinda under the radar. Rashad Reynolds is a similar player too! Kindof a poor mans Fuller!

  • AzheDraven

i thought he would slide to Steelers and Tuitt would be gone. Missed both lol

  • cp72

We could take Nix and then Aaron Lynch later and have Notre Dame’s 3/4s of Notre Dame’s starting defensive line three years ago.

  • WilliamSekinger

    Pens collapsed tonight 🙁

  • cp72

I said Nix is no better than a 3rd round pick since January. Sorry just taking some time to pat myself on the back.

  • westcoasteeler

He can catch and tackle. He’s just not over 6′

  • Reg Sayhitodabadguy Hunt

Browns have sold over 2,000 season tickets since drafting johnny football espn reports

  • Jason Vancil

Tre Mason anyone? I thought he would be gone before now. Not a need but I like him.

  • WilliamSekinger

Haha no problem! I’m definitely no expert. Just wondering because I’ve been reading for a while he was seen as a very good prospect.

  • steelster

This draft is unfolding well for the steelers. A good cb is going to be sitting there for the 3rd round pick.

  • Ernest

I really hope shamarko has a big year b/c we could of really used that 3rd round pick this year.

  • steelster

    I agree

  • Jason Vancil

    Agreed

  • steelster

yes and the jags can’t sell out games and passed on him.

  • WilliamSekinger

The Factory of Sadness eats QBs. Guess the fans want a front row seat to witness it.

  • Jon Crissinger

Louis Nix is still on the board almost 10 picks into the 3rd round

  • cp72

He’s flashy but isn’t an elite anchor guy. Tuitt was the best lineman on that team by a bunch….wonder who was lucky enough to get him???

  • steeltown

I believe he will. He took a backseat to W.Allen after the injury, I don’t see him taking a backseat again

  • steeltown

still think Jville was crazy to not bring Tebow in, even as a backup would’ve sold tickets

  • Ernest

Let’s hope, bc I’m starting to think who is more worthy of the 3rd round pick that we gave away shamarko or nix?

  • cp72

Man if Phillip Gaines is there talk about adding speed to a defense. Mitchell, Shazier, Gaines….that’s a track team.

  • Jason Vancil

I’m thinking there is knee probs that was revealed by some team Docs.

  • Jason Vancil

SF just got an excellent player in Chris Borland

  • steeltown

I hope Tuitt sports the badass shredder face mask on his new Steelers helmet

  • Weiss Chad

Moncrief ,desir,or Watkins in third I hope

  • cp72

I throw in Gaines too….I like that kid.

  • Shannon Stephenson

Brock Vereen and I like Dri Archer

  • cp72

I’m seeing a Tuitt jersey in your future…..

  • Weiss Chad

I was just going through player visits.I concur Gaines is a solid cb

  • steeltown

    Ha!
    Time will tell, it’s likely

  • Richard Edlin

They were right to take him there – none of the WRs on offer represented the same value, and we’re also better able to manage with a #4-5 WR than a #2-3 DE …

  • Jason Vancil

#83 our original pick is coming up soon. Imagine having 83 & 97

  • steeltown

Balt just selected Terrence Brooks, they’re having themselves a nice draft as well

  • Weiss Chad

    Rooting for desir myself

  • Richard Edlin

He’s the nickle corner this year and a possible starting safety next year. If we had #83 pick we’d be very happy with that as the outcome this year …

  • Jason Vancil

Nix to Texans with our original pick in 3rd

  • Shannon Stephenson

long fall from him goint to us in the 1st

  • Weiss Chad

Wouldn’t count out dre archer either .Todd Haley type player.mccluster like.Fourth rd on him would be perfect .

  • Ernest

Killer 3 man front for texans. Nix, clowney, and watt. Ouch

  • Weiss Chad

Ouch!!!That would have been third rd steal.Gotta go cb/wr here.I gotta think its moncrief or they trade up in fourth him.

  • steeltown

    Indeed… they needed a D overhaul

  • Jon Crissinger

Exactly the same thing I’m thinking

  • steelster

Nix, Clowney and Watts for the Texans that could

  • blackandgoldBullion

They were damn good just a year and a half ago. Then, injuries and such, and they fell fast, fast. They could be in for a big comeback on D anyway. Plus Arian back on offense. Just a QB maybe.

  • Weiss Chad

Give me moncrief and desir in three and four please

  • Reg Sayhitodabadguy Hunt

Im thinking cb desir or rb dri archer

  • Shannon Stephenson

    preach it bro!!!

  • Reg Sayhitodabadguy Hunt

    Maybe bryant

  • Weiss Chad

Lol I just said that five min ago..nice thinking!!

  • taztroy43

its going to be Bryant or Watkins with the 3rd maybe even WR B. Coleman Georgia….

  • StrengthOfVictory

We know the Steelers brought in Ellington, Moncrief, and Bryant all in for pre-draft visits, and all three are still on the board. I say it’s one of them at 97. Don’t think DeSir will fall that far.

  • steeltown

Yea they lost a couple key guys Mario Williams in ’12 and Connor Barwin in ’13

  • blackandgoldBullion

And the other LB that keeps getting hurt.

  • Justin Barlow

    I’ll take Moncreif. Fingers crossed

  • Matt Manzo

    Phillip Gaines to the Chiefs!

  • Jason Vancil

    Forget Moncrief

  • steeltown

    Didn’t like him much anyway

  • Justin Barlow

Does Bryant remind anyone else of Limas Sweed?

  • Jason Vancil

Looks like more value at CB than WR here at 97

  • Weiss Chad

    I’m thinking sf snags desir

  • Matt Meyer

You gotta go wr or cb here right?

  • Game_Time

The way the Draft is playing out, I can see the 3rd Rd pick being Jaylen Watkins CB or one of 2 WR – Donte Moncrief / Martavis Bryant

  • Jason Vancil

    Moncrief is gone.

  • Shannon Stephenson

Having a feeling this will be a head scratcher

  • Weiss Chad

    Ellington,desir or Watkins please

  • RW

    Ellington?

  • ergomesh

take a risk on walt aikens with a sheriff and a preacher in 1 and 2 might as well get a crock to even it out

  • steeltown

    CB CB CB CB

  • Agustin-ARG

    CB no discussion

  • dgh57

    Maybe Desir?

  • Matt Meyer

Wr from south Carolina they had him for a pre draft visit

  • westcoasteeler

Like his size but the Steelers like Breeland

  • blackandgoldBullion

Bryant would have been nice here. But no CB yet. So it has to be CB.

  • RW

Well, their pick is in, just gotta wait

  • blackandgoldBullion

    Schofield already?

  • steeltown

    Dri Archer!

  • westcoasteeler

    Oh no

  • Jason Vancil

    Steelers take Dri Archer WoooHooo.

  • Matt Meyer

There is your scat back for haley

  • Kevin Gobleck

    DRIIIIII!!!!!!

  • blackandgoldBullion

    No way.

  • Jason Vancil

I knew it would be a curve ball. Trade up in 4th using 5 & 6 to get a CB

  • RW

    Hope so!

  • steeltown

    Did not see THAT coming

  • Tom

So much for the big WR

  • steelster

Dri Archer, wow, not sure about this pick

  • ergomesh

    crazy glass arrow

  • dgh57

Wow!! More speed but on offense with Dri Archer! There’s our speed back!

  • JimBouton

well, he’s fast. 4.16 secs on a 40 yard dash.

  • Intropy

Awesome. If there’s one things the Steelers needed it was yet another running back! I can’t wait to see him inactive on game days!

  • blackandgoldBullion

Love the guy. But I don’t believe it.

  • westcoasteeler

    Again

  • Agustin-ARG

and desir on the board!! archer could be available tomorrow!!

  • dgh57

    Say so long to LSH!

  • ergomesh

    20 reps bench wow

  • Jason Vancil

He plays WR too and obviously KR.

  • NW86

LOL, who would have guessed that going into day 3, the Steelers haven’t drafted a CB OR A WR yet!!
I trust the brass though – they have stuck to their draft board and best players available strategy, not over-reacted to their needed positions like we fans have.

  • Matt Meyer

Thought they might wait on that and take seastrunk from Rutgers later

  • westcoasteeler

How far away is pick #118?

  • Shannon Stephenson

    tomorrow

  • Weiss Chad

    Speed kills!!

  • steeltown

Yea but Seastrunk has no receiving or kick return ability

  • Reg Sayhitodabadguy Hunt

We have 2 fours and 2 fives i believe cb and wr next

  • steelster

Archer will be the return man.

  • Jason Vancil

And reportedly did in in 18 steps. Only Calvin Johnson did it in that few steps.

  • Big White

Love the Archer pick. Good day two. gulp gulp.

  • cp72

Man thats a fun pick….4.26 that’s world class fast. I think there are bigger needs, but what a weapon. He’s even faster than McCluster and Sproles.

Guess we have the kick return game fixed.

  • Eric MacLaurin

All 3 picks should provide significant production this year. This is a crazy good draft.

A CB would be nice but wouldn’t play this year and, at the end of the third we aren’t getting a special player anyway.

This draft is going to make a huge impact from day one.

  • Matt Meyer

You think they look for desir at cb if he is there tomorrow?

  • Jason Vancil

Archer is bigger and faster than Trindon Holliday who has made a significant impact for Denver.

  • steelster

How does this pick make sense. A change of pace back sure but with a high need at cb I don’t get it.

  • Eric MacLaurin

    Fast?

    Fastest guy at the combine.

  • steelster

    4.26

  • Jason Vancil

He has played as much WR as RB. He can cover 2 positions plus return man.

  • Jason Vancil

    Officially it was 4.16

  • dgh57

    That’s not bad for a guy 5’8″ 175 pounds!

  • joeyp

And with the 97th overall pick in the 2014 draft the yinzers all collectively choke on their beer…

  • Jason Vancil

We should still get a good CB at 4.118

  • Jon Crissinger

Good pickup. Still plenty of excellent CB prospects on the board – Watkins, McGill, EJ Gaines, Walt Aikens… Go with one of these guys in the 4th and then take the mountain of a wide receiver Brandon Coleman in round 5.

  • MC

WOW , never saw this kid but watched some tape just then and man he is fast. Will definitely open our offense up and stretch the field if they split him out.
Got a return man now also.

  • steeltown

    Insane speed… I’ll say that!

  • Matt Manzo

    That’s what I’m hopin for!

  • Jason Vancil

Todd Haley had to push for this. Archer is a faster Dexter McCluster. McCluster was a high 2nd rounder for KC when Haley was there.

  • Eric MacLaurin

Because instead of someone who is going to sit on the bench all year he is going to play a lot and let Haley do a lot of things. He is an impossible matchup and can catch and I think throw a little.

  • steeltown

Yep, and EJ Gaines, Watkins, McGill, Aikens and Cockrell are still out there

  • Matt Meyer

They have a lot of interest in cockrell he might be a project but it adds depth

  • Matt Manzo

Thought for sure we were gonna see Desir!
This a surprise pick but I love it! Seems like we’re targeting explosive guys! Should make camp awesome!
We can still go CB in 4 and hopefully still get to choose from WRs Coleman, Enunwa, Janis in rnd 5! Or we could see OLB!

  • steeltown

WR, RB and KR… I wasn’t expecting this, but he fills a couple needs and almost immediately

  • steeltown

Two 5th and 6th rders and the 118th in the 4th

  • Donny Simmons

Just hope Archer can hold up. He is fast! Desir or McGill should be there

  • cp72

Colbert seems to like Cockrell. He and Tomlin were at Dukes pro day. Also think Desir would be a steal tomorrow.

Sorry I would write more the players still available, but I need to order my Dri Archer jersey before I go to bed.

  • Jon Crissinger

This is what I’d like to see out of the remaining picks:
    4. Keith McGill CB
    5. Brandon Coleman WR
    5. James Hurst, OT
    6. Larry Webster, OLB
    6. Aaron Colvin, CB
    7. Brock Vereen, S

  • Tom

    both positive and negative.

  • blackandgoldBullion

I thought McKinnon would have been around in round 6. Vibes took him before Archher Just goes to show that mocks are such a waste.

  • Weiss Chad

Bruce Ellington .spelling could be wrong. Andre Ellington (cards rb) brother

  • Matt Manzo

    I can’t wait to yell…”ARCHER”!!! Sounds barbaric!

  • Matt Manzo

You had me at McGill and Colvin! When can we meet?!

  • Matt Manzo

You like Webster better than SBarrett?
I love McGill, his injuries scare me but I’d love to give him a chance!
And Coleman too, I like him, but his drops scare me! Still would love him in Black n Gold!
I’m hopin for Enunwa or Janis!

  • Matt Manzo

That surprised me too! I’m glad we don’t have to play him! (All the time)

  • Jon Crissinger

If Coleman didn’t have his drops he would have been already off the board! He has the same box out and jump ball ability as Kelvin Benjamin though. And yeah I just think Larry Webster is a going to be great, like him a lot more Barrett. Some of this late round guys might have just been their targets all along at WR and CB

  • Dave Bradley

On to day 3. Team Colbert/Tomlin want speed. I believe they draft at least one corner with 4.5 speed or better. These are CB’s that have yet to be
drafted.Their 40 times from the combine is the last stat before their respective school..So I am guessing one of these players will be a Steeler drafted on Saturday.

Andre Hal CB Sr 5-10 188 4.5 (Vandy)
Nevin Lawson CB Sr 5-09 190 4.4 (Utah St)
    Jabari Price CB Sr 5-10 200 4.45 (N. Carolina)
Kendall James CB Sr 5-10 180 4.44 (U of Maine)
Brandon Dixon CB Sr 5-11 203 4.41 (North Missouri State)

    Just missed the cut:
    Demetri Goodson CB rS r5-11 194 4.52(Baylor)
    Aaron Colvin CB Sr5 -11 177 4.51 (Oklahoma)
Bennett Jackson CB Sr 6-0 195 4.51 (Notre Dame)
Keith McGill CB rSr 6-3 211 4.5 (Utah)
Rashaad Reynolds CB rSr 5-10 189 4.51 (Oregon St)

FYI Pierre Desir ran a 4,59

  • Shannon Stephenson

Everybody allowed the media to tell us how badly we needed a CB and all I was saying was we have 3 guys who can start on the roster as of today but nobody listened…maybe now we see it wasnt this huge need that everyone was saying. we do need to get depth but we still have a year or two to get a guy or so groomed. to become a starter

  • Matt Manzo

    I’ll look into Webster!

  • Shannon Stephenson

also a kid by the name of Anunike that I feel can play OLB for us maybe a late round steal.

  • Dave Bradley

    sounds good to me

  • Dave Bradley

Keith McGill CB rSr 6-3 211 4.51 (Utah)

  • shawn

Great call !!! came earlier than i expected … and wasn’t sure they even liked him … but i absolutely love the pick

  • shawn

i dont think we will be able to get a starter/ outside type guy at CB now at this stage but hopefully at least get a cover slot guy …. colvin in the wings is also waiting !

Im changing my tune on Watkins … didnt like him as an outside guy .. but purely a slot dime/nickel guy to take over for Gay in the future … what u think ?

  • shawn

yup … fills lots of needs immediately ! Special Special player … can’t wait .. the jerseys will fly off the shelve !

  • shawn

Yes … like that idea to get the CB … 5th should be enough !

  • shawn

never heard that … if true … because he is so short its like he is flying off the ground … u gotta understand as well .. he was actually disappointed he didnt break CJ2’s record at the combine … no matter though as he is much faster than CJ2 on the field !

  • shawn

u will be very surprised … he not only will be VERY active on Game Day, but will be one of the most impact players on the field … can u say GREAT field position !

  • shawn

Yesss … amazing draft so far .. definitely surprised and extremely Happy … all will contribute immediately !

  • shawn

Field Position & special teams is one of the most underrated parts of the game … he will make an immediate positive impact !

  • shawn

McGill unfortunately has cement blocks for feet … and has no business playing CB .. they did a huge disservice letting him switch to CB from Safety .. he has no future at that position ..

  • shawn

i agree somewhat .. ( love that 3 players will play immediately and are all great players as well as extremely athletic … ) but make no mistake we do need CBs … 2 of them .. not immediately but very soon …

the reason i think they didnt get one so far … was they would much rather have a great player than just reach for a need and get someone they aren’t high on …. i think we will come away with a couple slot-nickel guys this year … and save the lockdown CB next year’s draft to take over for Ike … or possibly trade for one !

  • Brian Miller

how about a Joe Don Duncan, or Blanchflower at TE in the 6th? Another weapon…

  • taztroy43

Brandon Coleman 4th round pick….pierre desir or ej gaines 5th round..

  • cp72

Think you may have to flip flop that…..but I like it.

  • cp72

Anyone feeling Aaron Colvin. Be like picking a first round corner next year.

  • Sack Master

If I’m not mistaken, the Steelers have already stated that its not out of the question for Bryant to start opposite AB this year.
