ESPN Analyst Herm Edwards Predicts Steelers, Buccaneers Super Bowl

It’s only May, but former NFL head coach Herm Edwards has already made his Super Bowl prediction and it might just surprise you.

The charismatic ESPN analysts said Tuesday that he predicts that the Pittsburgh Steelers will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl XLIX, which will be played Feb.1 in Glendale, AZ.

After missing the playoffs for a sixth straight season in 2013, the Buccaneers fired head coach Greg Schiano and replaced him with former Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith.

As for the Steelers, a return to the post season would certainly be a welcomed sight after back-to-back 8-8 seasons.

Currently, the Steelers are 12/1 to win the AFC while the Buccaneers are 28/1 to win the NFC.

Edwards will more than likely change his pick a few more times prior to the start of the 2014 regular season, but for now, we’ll just enjoy his Steelers optimism on the first day of OTA practices.

As Edwards once said, “You play to win the game!”

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

Herm Edwards predicting that is the kiss of death to our season.

  • joed32

    Why?

  • Melly

i’ll take it!!!!! Goin to the SNF game vs the Rat birds!!!! Can’t wait for football!!!!!

  • MailboxKid

Don’t say Buccaneers though. Damn it, lie to me, Dave!

  • Gautama Om

LOL. Herman Edwards is the least credible “expert” there is out there. Having said that, you never know. If our players worked on their craft during the offseason and they are much improved after TC and preseason, and we are relatively injury free then we just might do it. As long as we have Ben we have a shot.

  • Paddy

    I’ll take it

  • Brian Miller

you ain’t lying…no I know we won’t win the SB!!

  • StarSpangledSteeler

In all seriousness, aside from Denver and New England we have as good a shot as anybody from the AFC.

Every year there are 2 or 3 teams that “surprise” people by winning many more games than anticipated. And typically those teams have young/unknown/speedy players who are suddenly given a opportunity to show their skills.

If Pouncey/DeCastro/Foster stay healthy, I think our OL will be much improved. (We can chip block to help out our tackles.) I think the Bell + Blount + Archer combo will be MUCH more dominate than people are anticipating. And i think that improved running attack will hep Ben be more effective.

I think our DL will be better this year than last year. I think our LBs will be better this year than last year. I think our Safeties will be better this year than last year. I think our pass rush will be better this year.

It all comes down to our CBs and WRs.

And avoiding key injuries….we are due for a mostly healthy season

  • StarSpangledSteeler

    Seriously

  • Steve

You said it – avoiding Key injuries, which killed us last year in the 1st 4 games, loosing our play callers on both sides of the ball early.

  • JAMESH

Will you be the guy in the Steelers jersey? I’ll look for you!

  • Louis Goetz

Tomlin would be conflicted. Didn’t he get his 1st ring as the secondary coach for the Bucs when they won their SB?

  • JAMESH

I don’t like it any more than you do, but Warren Sapp was right.

  • Jason White

He wasn’t right the first couple times he said it though. They ranked first in defense those seasons. Warren Sapp is a clueless taint.

  • Johnny Loose

    “Hello!?” 2 pts for Herm

  • Labrat0116

Azz-wipe, Steelers-hater Warren Sapp would surely love this match up!

  • Steel PAul

The idea of those two teams making it is as newsworthy as Seattle and S.F. not making it in the NFC and Denver and N.E. not making it in the AFC. Hard to imagine, but another sign the Steelers are moving in the right direction.

  • srdan

i’m pretty sure that doesn’t stack up to getting rings as a HC

  • Louis Goetz

And what did those stats get anyone?

  • http://thereactionblog.com Michael Stickings

To be kind, I’ll just suggest that Herm must have misunderstood the question.

  • Jason White

There is more than one side to a football team. The point is Warren Crap was wrong when he said it.

  • Melly

u know it! ill be in the EZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
