Peter King Mocks Virginia Tech CB Kyle Fuller To Steelers After Trade Down

Peter King of Sports Illustrated has now released a mock of the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft and it even includes a few projected trades.

On Monday, King wrote that he’s been hearing that the Philadelphia Eagles are interested in trading up for LSU wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and he managed to work that into his mock by having the Eagles trade up seven spots with the Pittsburgh Steelers. While King doesn’t note what picks were swapped in the trade, we can only assume he was fair. (Edit: (Acquired from Pittsburgh for first- and second-round picks)

After having the Steelers move down in round one, King still manages to mock Virginia Tech cornerback Kyle Fuller to them at No. 22 overall.

The Steelers are desperate to rebuild their cornerback depth chart, and this four-year starter in the ACC is a good way to begin. He’s physical too, the kind of player Mike Tomlin demands in the defensive backfield.

I would be ecstatic if the Steelers were able to move down and still manage to draft Fuller, and I know a few of you would be as well. In case you missed it, here is my post from a few days ago about Fuller and why he deserves to be the Steelers first-round selection.

As far as the rest of King’s mock draft goes, he has seven wide receivers and four cornerbacks being drafted in the first round to go along with three quarterbacks.

That would be AWESOME! FYI Dave, the link to your post about Fuller was not inserted.

  • James Wilson

King gives us phila 1st and 2nd round picks.

  • Chad H

I don’t have a good feeling that Fuller will be there at 22.

  • chris ward

That would be ideal, if the Steelers can trade back get some extra picks and still get their guy Fuller at 22 overall!

  • SteelersDepot

I missed King writing that the Steelers get the Eagles second round pick. That’s a huge price to pay for Beckham.

  • dkoy85

It’s hard to say, but in some mocks I see Fuller going to the Eagles at 22. Would kinda work out perfect really.

  • William Bigelow

Yes please, where do I sign up ?

  • dgh57

In that case lets get the deal DONE!!

  • blue

We need to draft an all pro type player in first rd with 15th pic or we are just wasting our great draft positioning, why take lower draft pics when history has proven that half of them dont even make the team.

  • SFIC

Take it and run! Heck, I would have taken just a third.

  • Chad H

I understand but I don’t go by mock drafts because it is to hard to predict where someone will go. I believe he will go 1-15 and may go in the top 12 and won’t be there by 15. If he is not there when we pick then definitely trade back.

  • Iron Cadet

I’m starting to think that fuller might not fall that far, could go as high as 11 to the titans

  • RW

I kind of doubt it, Gilbert and Dennard are highly likely to be way up there on their draft board, particularly Dennard as he fits the scheme rather well. I think Dennard could go to Detroit and Gilbert to St. Louis.

Would LOVE Fuller in a trade back scenario.

  • Toddy Bravo

The prospect of Fuller at #15 (without even trading down) is growing on me. I really wish he had more INTs, forced fumbles and, generally, more production overall.

  • Big White

No way the Eagles give up a 2nd to move up seven spots. Especially for Odell Beckham. I mean the guy has shown some flash and some speed, but by no means is worthy of the #15 pick and another pick on top of that. Not happening. A third would most likely be the currency. If either of those two scenarios happens though, you take it and run. The value of this draft is 18 – 38.

  • Michael Pearce

King did’nt say that. He did’nt note what pick were swapped in the trade. It was an edit and wishful thinking that they would trade their first and second picks. That would be great if they were offering that.

  • cencalsteeler

If Fuller, Dennard or Gilbert are available at 15, and Anthony Barr falls to us, I have a hunch they pull the trigger on Barr.

  • Iron Cadet

Many many possible scenarios. I’m really curious to see what we do if Donald is there

  • http://thereactionblog.com Michael Stickings

    Best. Case. Scenario. Period.

This would be awesome. I wish I had more analysis, but no, just: awesome.

  • Jollyrob68

Take Fuller at 15 because I dont think he’d be there if you trade back.

  • Crazy Bone

Eagles don’t have enough draft choices to trade up. I wonder if King is aware of this.

  • srdan

I agree, but this doesn’t happen until thursday around 10pm if it does at all. Colbert will stay at 15 to see whats there.

  • srdan

I agree with you. He reeks of someone that is climbing rapidly at the right time. I don’t think he will be on the board when we draft(15).

I think what happens with some players is that the GMs feel the pressure not to make a mistake. And from what I have read Fuller fits that mold. He is good enough at everything not great at anything.

  • Biggie

I am fine with trading down and getting Fuller if that happens since I like him at 15

  • HoDepot

    I agree

  • http://www.thesportsbonanza.com/ TheSportsBonanza

Wouldn’t mind that at all but a serious risk! I think it’s a no brainer we need a CB first round and the only worthy 3 are fuller, Dennard and Gilbert

  • mlc43

LOL, not to be nitpicky, but you say you don’t believe in mock drafts because it’s too hard to predict but then make a prediction yourself. I just thought it was a little funny, though, I do agree with you about Fuller.

  • mlc43

Assuming we get their 1st and 2nd round pick….why the HECK wouldn’t we!!??? This is a deep draft and we’ll get a great pick at 22. Also we get an additional 2nd!! C’mon man! The “experts” are saying that the talent is almost 1st round talent through the 2nd. This would be a dream situation.

  • Steelers12328882

Wow a 2nd rd pick? That’s crazy! Can’t see that happening.

  • Steelers12328882

Biggest surprise of that mock draft is 1 QB being taken in the first 19 picks(#7 Manziel to the Bucs), although I’ve been thinking similar for awhile now.

  • Steel LJ

I love it really don’t matter if we get fuller there a number of good players we can get at that spot…. I would even do it for there 3 rd round pick and. With hat pick ill take the WR out LSU Landry

  • Steeler Fanatic

Based on the NFL value chart, a second-rounder would come close to the value to move up. I’d be doing handstands.

  • Weiss Chad

I’d be happy if fuller makes 15.For some reason as soon as someone hears who steelers interested in,it seems everyone starts wanting them.Much respect to peter king.I will be doing flips if this happens.Obj seems to have a lot of teams going after him.I like Jarvis Landry just as much.

  • Ernest

I like fuller at 15 as well. As I said previously, we will be lucky if fuller makes it to us b/c I feel teams could leap frog us and take all top 3 CBs.

  • dave

I’m not the biggest fan of trading down in general, but I do really like this particular scenario – especially getting the second rounder instead of a third, and still getting Fuller.
