The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently scheduled to have two picks on Friday when the 2014 NFL Draft resumes and there’s still quite a few quality players left on the board.
On day two, the Steelers could possibly have their sights set on an outside linebacker, defensive lineman, wide receiver or cornerback.
As far as defensive linemen go, Notre Dame products, nose tackle Louis Nix III and defensive end Stephon Tuitt could be attractive to the Steelers in round two if neither are picked in the first 13 selections. Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert and head coach Mike Tomlin both attended the Notre Dame Pro Day back in March and Tuitt was even brought in for a pre draft visit. Minnesota’s Ra’Shede Hageman and Penn State’s DaQuan Jones are two more defensive end prospects that could interest the Steelers on day two as well.
When you look at the outside linebacker prospects that figure to be drafted sometime during the second day, Boise State’s Demarcus Lawrence, Georgia Tech’s Jeremiah Attaochu and Oregon State’s Scott Crichton would all fit the bill. Lawrence and Crichton were both pre draft visitors, so the interest in them is there.
When it comes to the cornerback position, Lindenwood’s Pierre Desir, Florida’s Jaylen Watkins, Duke’s Ross Cockrell and Rice’s Phillip Gaines best fit what the Steelers do defensively Cockrell and Gaines, however, might be viewed more as day three prospects.
Being as only five wide receivers were selected in round one, a few “tall” prospects now have a good shot at being on the board come time for the Steelers to pick in round two. That list of players includes Indiana’s Cody Latimer, Mississippi’s Donte Moncrief, Fresno State’s Davante Adams, Vanderbilt’s Jordan Matthews, Penn State’s Allen Robinson and Clemson’s Martavis Bryant.
