Steelers Film Room: Dri Archer Kickoff Returns For Touchdowns Animated GIFs

New Pittsburgh Steelers running back/wide receiver/kick returner Dri Archer is certainly a fun player to watch on tape with that blazing speed of his. However, where Archer will more than likely make the biggest impact in 2014 with the Steelers is as a kick returner and to entertain you on this Sunday, I have pulled all four of his career kickoff returns that went for touchdowns while at Kent State. A few of these might take some time to load, so be patient.

versus Northern Illinois (2013) 100 yards

versus Eastern Michigan (2012) 98 yards

versus Ball State (2012) 99 yards

versus Towson (2012) 98 yards

    Average return yards?

I guess he returned more than 4 kicks 😀

  • michael young

He picks his path quickly and goes from 0-60 in two strides. I certainly see what attracted Tomlin and Colbert to him. I also find it interesting that Tomlin was quick to correct the reporter that referred to him as small. Tomlin said “he’s short, not small.”

  • AzheDraven

Daaaaaaaamn!! He’s fast. He’s real fast. I mean he makes fast people look not fast

  • AzheDraven

Devin Hester 2.0 now with arms to catch and skill to be a RB?

  • DoctorNoah

How does his speed and skill set compare to Reggie “not on our team anymore” Dunn?

  • treeher

Those guys on the other team sure are slow. 🙂

  • Ike Evans

His skill set is superior….his speed is too

  • Ike Evans

Well…with the new rules kick returns are going to be few andfar between so hopefully he’s just as dangerous at punt returning

  • joed32

  • Kevin Gobleck

Can we give him a nickname of Forest?

  • walter mason

He doesnt do much weaving just straight up the middle. He certainly realizes that the shortest distance to the goal is a straight line.

  • cencalsteeler

Defenders have angles on him, but he out runs their angles.

  • Toddy Bravo

No doubt. He needs to have nerves of steel to catch punts in the NFL at 173 lbs. Man I hope he does.

  • Ike Evans

I keep hearing this kid is suuuuuuper tough…like recklessly tough for a guy his size

  • John C

Too bad there aren’t many kickoff return chances anymore. Can he return punts?

  • Toddy Bravo

Archer was historically productive in the MAC as both a mult-dimensional weapon on offense and as a kick returner. Dunn, if I recall correctly, couldn’t get on the field on offense. He was just a return demon. Of course, there’s a big difference in competition between Kent State and Utah (I think?), so take it for what it’s worth.

  • Nolrog

Geez, that sucker can fly. Those gifs look like they are sped up.

  • MJ

Oh my god, he has long strides for a guy his height! wow He’s not just fast he’s scary fast!!!!

First time I’ve been able to see the difference between a 4.26 guy and a 4.4 guy. Just wow.

  • Reg Sayhitodabadguy Hunt

This guy is a blurr on video thats gonna have defenses scared to blink

  • Reg Sayhitodabadguy Hunt

If willie parker was fast willie parker he should be speedy too bad his last name not gonzalez

  • Weiss Chad

    40yd dashin eighteen steps

  • Weiss Chad

He has returned something like 5 punts last year..not to sure on that but think I heard it somewher

Dave….. this is why we love you. Thank you for providing this for us.

  • AzheDraven

    Speedy GonzArcher? ok not lol

  • HardPunkKore

the last gif, kent state got away with a hold… either way the kid clearly has world class speed.

  • shawn

2 Interesting things … that dont necessarily mean anything but are interesting none the less … and bodes well in my opinion

    1. We have a lot of successful history with Kent St. JACK LAMBERT & JAMES HARRISON … not to mention lately that the MAC Conference has been pretty kind to us with ANTONIO BROWN & BIG BEN … so dont discount the talent there !!!!!

    2. I’m a big fan of names … and just for the record … DRI ARCHER has a HOF name … u got to luv the sound of it

so lets start the nicknames now … have already heard the “TORCH” and “HUMAN HIGHLIGHT FILM” lets hear some good ones … cuz I have a feeling he is going to be one HOT commodity and we will hear his name from Chris Berman a lot this next fall !!!

  • shawn

Not necessarily … it still hovers around 50% or more for most teams and even more against AFC North .. but ya would have been a much bigger impact before the change … But he will definitely get his opportunities !

  • Ted Reiter

Tying Megatron for the fewest steps in a 40. Megatron is 6’4. Fastest player to ever play in the league. Timed 4.16 at one time.

  • shawn

Yaaa he is … I’m not worried one bit about his size … the write up by Alex was a little unfair … he is not scared or shy to go up the middle one bit … he does go down easy sometimes and is not going to be running over anybody, but to judge his toughness by his weight is a BIG mistake .. everyone can get hurt

Look at Bo Jackson one of the most natural strongest runners in NFL History … career cut short by injury ..

as far as i know the biggest injury this kid has had is an bad ankle sprain …so just goes to show !!

Look at his 2012 stats when he was fully healthy 23 TDs Mostly Rushing but also KR and Receiving .. he was a beast .. his 2013 season was hampered by his ankle … hopefully there is no issue with it now

People are tending to think he will only primarily be used as a KR, But I wouldnt discount his Rushing Abilities .. had 16 TDs in 2012 … no small feat !!!

  • shawn

amazingly long strides … Holds the record for the LONgEST Stride at the Combine along with Calvin Johnson … ya very scary !

  • shawn

see my reply below … 23 TDs in 2012 from every position

  • shawn

cuz hes more of a 4.1 guy … fastest hand timed 40 in combine history at 4.16 i believe …. not to mention most of those that run 4.2s dont have anywhere near that good of playing speed, while he on the other hand has no drop off whatsoever when he gets on the field !

  • shawn

By his stats only has 9 PR in career for marginal ydg .. not sure if he can be a PR … we’ll see i guess

  • Doug Sawyer

and 20 reps at 225 on the press he is all man

  • Weiss Chad

Mike tomlin “this guys not small he’s short”

  • Anthony Janis

damn i have a good feeling about this year, a good draft that should help immediately…no injuries, turnovers to a minimum and takeaways to a maximum = stairway to seven…STEELERS RULE!!!

  • Virdin Barzey

What’s most impressive in these gifs is that he is blowing pass guys who seem to have an angle on him. There’s no coaching that kind of speed. My concern is if he gets hit but at that speed not sure anyone can. Can’t wait to see this dude in person on the field.

  • Richard Edlin

Yes – the most impressive thing about these is the chances that opposition had, and then had taken away. Contact too, a few times … hope he can stay healthy and we get some windy days.

  • Weiss Chad

Pound for pound probably strongest guy on team.only injury I’m worried about is his ankles.

  • Shawn S.

There’s only one term for that: ludicrous speed.

  • My goodness, im not sure i could catch him….in my car!

  • I got his nickname, Flash! He is so fast he could cause a time rift

  • Timothy Rea

Dr Archer – Ludicrous speed GO!! I like it

  • IckyD

At 5’7″ 173#’s is pretty stout, and wmnthat kind of upper-body strength to go w/his speed…..!?

  • IckyD

Dri “Archer” = faster than an Arrow in flight?

    The Steel Arrow?

  • IckyD

We can only pray…and i am!

  • IckyD

He’s a guy who can make our O-line look very, very good!

Use Will Johnson [4.38//40 at 6’3″/240#’s] as a FB again like he played at WVU and all Archer’d need is one good bblock to let him accelerate….

  • IckyD

Plus, Will Johnson can run, catch and block like nobody’s bidnezz…the two of them in a backfield and our receivers= a defenses’ nightmare!

  • IckyD

He might actually be a LOT faster than 4.26 with his adrenaline pumping.

And he runs very straight ahead; wastes few steps dancing- sets up defenders on angles and just casually changes course slightly to make them miss.

He is undoubtedly the most natural runner i’ve seen since….

    …Mr. HOF- Barry Sanders.

  • Jayden

Dri Archer was known as the “Golden Flash” at Kent State

  • shawn

    Nice !

  • pittfan

    lots of promise….
