Steelers O-Line Currently Laughing In Georgia With Roethlisberger

The Pittsburgh Steelers first set of OTA practices will get underway the day after Memorial Day, so before the team gets back to work, it appears as though quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has taken his offensive line to Georgia for one last shot at some rest and relaxation.

Left guard Ramon Foster has been kind enough to post a few pictures from the trip and it appears as though he, Maurkice Pouncey, Marcus Gilbert, Mike Adams, Kelvin Beachum and David DeCastro all made the trip.

I don’t know for sure, but it looks like the shot of the group in the pool might have been taken at Roethlisberger’s offseason home that is located on Lake Oconee in central Georgia.

I don’t see Guy Whimper, so perhaps he wasn’t invited or couldn’t get a signed permission slip. Whimper, by the way, is celebrating a birthday today. He is now 31. I’m also not seeing Cody Wallace, but perhaps he had a few prostate exams already on the calendar.

Who’s laughing now, o-line?

lol a few prostate exams already on the calendar, Dr Wallace.

  • steelster

    Awesome. Thanks for sharing this.

  • AzheDraven

Maybe if they help Ben and/or Bell to get a record this year they could be awarded with something like a jetski like the ones AP gave to his line. Would be a nice incentive to keep healthy and keep playing well

  • Tullydew

Is that a Baby Ruth in the pool?

  • Melly

Heard a lil’ nugget on “Moving the Chains” that Kirwan can see McCullers becoming an OL.

  • DB84

as long as it isn’t Milledgeville sounds good to me

  • SteelersDepot

  • dgh57

Hope Big Ben doesn’t hear that!

  • Dan

I knew that’s where the discussion would go as soon as I read the headline. He shoulda sold that place….there’s plenty of good lakes and summer homes in Western PA.

  • Tim Barca

The pic in the pool is at the Ritz Carlton – Reynolds Plantation. I have been a few times and the staff says that Ben comes there often for lunch and take a dip in the pool.

  • Dewayne Braxton

Maybe they should put their money together and see if they can buy two starting tackles? Why would you reward one of worst lines in the league? Well we all know Ben doen’t always use the best judgement.

  • Matt Manzo

I wanna live there! That plane pic looks like Bens doin lines!!!

  • Dr. Doom

That was so funny, Guy Whimper was to busy editing his wikepedia page.

  • unfurious

But look at that sun. I miss the sun.

  • Krankor

You’re GOT to be kidding me. Not good judgement??? It’s the smartest thing he could possibly do! Whether you think this year’s line is going to be the worst or the best, *it’s the only line they have*. It’s the one that he *has* to work behind! They didn’t get any hot-shot rookies or free agents for the line, so those guys you see in the pictures are *it*. It makes total sense that he support and encourage them! Have you somehow managed to forget 2008? We had about the worst o-line in the league, but Ben stayed loyal to them throughout, and you saw the result. “Who’s laughing now, o-line?”

  • steeltown

Isnt that part of it, camaraderie within the group through thick and thin

Plus maybe Ben knows, like most of us do, that he tends to hold onto the ball too long sometimes, not an OL in the League can protect a QB for THAT long.

  • Dewayne Braxton

Who ‘s laughing? The Ravens, Broncos, Patriots, Bengals, Chiefs and any other team that welcomes matching up against Gilbert and Beachum.

  • Dwayne Ferguson

Man I remember the last time Ben was in the news for celebrating with one of his olinemen in Georgia…. Let us hope this ends better.

  • Dewayne Braxton

This is the NFL. I am sure that niether Payton Manning nor Tom Brady has to take millionairs on trips to keep from getting killed. In 2008, Ben could run around. And he had to because they sucked then too. I contend that the defensives playing against them, who have kept them from converting numerous third and ones are elated. NO body is afraid of lineman who need tightend help just run the ball. The facts are in, 28 in rushing and that was with with Bell coming on strong WITH TIGHTENDS PLAYING EXTRA TACKLE. Again, it wasn’t my decision.

  • steeltown

Im not sure any of those Teams are laughing, none named won the SB last year and its been awhile since any of them have, besides Baltimore who’s OLine is atrocious

  • Krankor

I’m not saying the line is great. I’m not saying anything about how good or bad they are. You think they suck? I’m not arguing with you. All I’m saying is that it is *smart* of Ben to stand by and support them, and certainly not bad judgement, as you allege.

  • Matt Manzo

….and it looks like they barely fit in that plane!

  • Steve

Looks like the jet skis are ready to go in the last picture.

  • Dewayne Braxton

When other quarterbacks play against us they hold the ball too. Fact is they have good offensive lines we don’t. And I honestly think franchise like Peyton Manning, and Brady would demand real starters over scuba diving buddies.

  • Dewayne Braxton

They are more likely to help them reach number one in fewest rushing touchdowns and third down conversions. That’s what the records shows.

  • Dewayne Braxton

He can’t be worse than what they have.

  • Dewayne Braxton

I guess your point is that consecutive 8-8 seasons makes the Steelers better than them? Come on! No one wants acknolwedged that the line has been bad for years. We pick out the secondary weaknesses and even the punter’s. Why do we look past the numbers and give these guys a pass?

  • Dewayne Braxton

I believe in positive and negative reinforcement. He should demand talent not guys he has to cheer on. That said, I understand your premise.

  • steelster

    what record ?

  • afrazier9

Guy’s give them a break every year we are putting together a patch work o-line and it does affect there play as a whole. lets hope munchek can put the line together and keep them together for a whole year then you can judge

  • afrazier9

Ben good job lets make sure there happy so they can keep you happy maybe work on some calls and look at film for a hour or two while you guys are there

  • steelster

The last thing they should do is look at film. You don’t take a vacation to work.

  • Dewayne Braxton

Excuse me! They did not make the playoffs! That means they had a longer off season! How much vacation do they need?

  • frednash

    willie wasn’t invited?

    whose the new body guard

    must be Adams …

  • Dewayne Braxton

Ranking 27th or 28th in rushing yards and rushing first downs, and rushing touchdowns for the last three years. THAT record!

  • steelster

They are doing this right before they go to work. It helps bring them together as teammates without any coaches around. Big Ben isn’t the only quarterback who does this. Playoff qb’s do this as well.

  • WilliamSekinger

    Nice infinity edged pool!

  • steelster

Bell, Blount , Decastro and a healthy pouncey will help fix that problem. I’m very excited about blount at the goaline. Don’t be surprised if the steelers try a ball control running game to help keep that young defense off the field.

  • joed32

No ones giving them a pass. They’re all we have and whining about it won’t change anything. All we can do is hope they play better.

  • John C

If I am Ben, the last place I would ever visit is Georgia….let alone have an offseason home there….just makes me nervous when I hear Ben and Georgia mentioned together.

  • AndyR34

You get sun in the ‘Burgh now? I don’t remember the sun in the ‘Burgh! LOL

  • Reg Sayhitodabadguy Hunt

Um not sure if you are aware that many qbs treat and do nice things for their o-line rolex watches, trips to pro bowl, dinners, movies, ben is not the first and he won’t be the last its called bonding

  • Dewayne Braxton

I agree. And Ben is generous. He fed the likes of Willie hold on Colon, Keamatou, Trai Essex, Jonathan Scott, and who can forget Doug Legursky. Looks like what he’s doing ain’t workin.

  • unfurious

No. That was my point. There is no sun in Pittsburgh. The light has forsaken us.

  • Jeff Anoble

Probably about 40 G for that private plane ride.

  • Krankor

Now here I must really object. Willie “hold on” Colon? That’s not the name he earned. In his time, we had FWP running behind FWC. That’s “Fast” Willie Parker and “False-start” Willie Colon. 😉

  • Doni609

You’re right Dwayne and I don’t see the wife and kiddies on that plane or at the lake. Big Ben and little Ben on the loose isn’t a good omen, especially when you’ve got one of the Pouncy twins in tow.

  • Doni609

It is actually not an infinity edged pool. What you see is what you get when you dump a couple thousand pounds of lard into a confined body of water.

  • Doni609

    No $hit!

  • Doni609

Ben looks like he’s the only one in the pool wearing swimming trunks…….wtf???

  • Tom

    That was my first reaction…
Just stay at home, no bar hopping, stay out of Milledgeville.

  • brent

    8 games 11 sacks

  • cp72

We already have a big tall guy with long arms and no feet on that side of the ball……Mike Adams.

  • cp72

Looks like Ben has lost some weight. Of course it could be the Thornton Mellon theory. You want to look thinner hangout with fat people.

  • HiVul

Agreed, what Ben’s doing makes obvious sense, anyone who’s played a team sport can understand that. I kinda think that Dewayne is trolling by the way. Who gets upset with their QB for spending time with the OL? Total nonsense

  • Jim McCarley

No strip clubs or bars…..and preferably no alcohol either. Plenty of time for that, post career…lol.

  • steeltown

  • steeltown

I’ll reserve judgment, they played much much better in the 2nd half last year and we have a new OL Coach

  • Melly

    Yes. It was…around 3:05pm.

  • Dewayne Braxton

The second half of the year produced one 100 yard rushing game. That said, the running game did get better. However, I personally cannot give the line credit because they clearly needed extra tightend help to accomplish it. Moreover, Bell was hit numerous times in the back field and we still failed to run the ball at the key times in games and that is inpart why we watchd the playoffs.Sure its a passing league but according to Mr. Rooney and coaches the running game has to get much better. I like Adams at RIGHT tackle but have no confidence in Beachum as run blocker but acknowledge he is a decent pass protector. He did play much better than Adams. IMO Gilbert just stinks. He lacks talent. I really want worng. I love our team lke we all do. But I am concerend about this line. Very concerend! Its so far from what we use to have. Guess I’m spoiled on the days when our line eptomized Steeler football and the physicality we played with.

  • PA2AK

I bet you’re a blast to sit down and throw a beer at.

  • PA2AK

and by all accounts they were in the gym the next week. stop with the sanctimonious sack-hanging.

  • Dewayne Braxton

I can sit down with beer drinkers or anyone who loves the Steelers. We do not have to agree. I particpate in the discussion because the fans on this blog love the Steelers! In the end, we all want the 7th Lombardi! I’ll buy you beer and you can throw it at me. Just keep lovin the Steelers!

  • PA2AK

In reality…i’d never disrespect a beer like that. just giving you a hard time because it seems like today might be your Monday or something. Really going all out on that OL with a very short leash. I’m confident that they build on the last half of last season. They looked a lot better. I think there has been a tremendous amount of ‘growing up’ taking place in a short period of time. I expect them all to improve just based on what they went through last year and how they came out the other side. Munchak is just a big plus.

  • Ahmad

    That pool tho!
