Steelers Waive T Kaycee Ike, Claim CB Deion Belue Off Waivers

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a few roster moves on Wednesday as one player was waived and another added off of waivers.

Waived was tackle Kaycee Ike, who was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama-Birmingham.

Ike was waived in order to make room for cornerback Deion Belue, who was claimed off waivers from the Miami Dolphins.

Belue, who was signed by the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama, had 6.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, nine passes defended and a fumble recovery for a touchdown in 2012. In 2013 Belue battled a turf toe injury all season and it led to him registering just one tackle for loss, one interception and four passes defended.

Good to see some more competition for CB!

The one CB I know nothing about!

I know right we need to bolster the cornerback crew

  • afrazier9

    we need pressure and turnovers

i think the front 7 will be killing s**t

I heard that name before so im hoping its because of something positive as far as ball skills

Great pickup! I’ll bet Coach Lake had this kid on his board for his toughness alone…playing as Alabama’s top corner with turf toe for most of the season!? That’s sheer grit. Raises the bar even higher for competitiveness for the limited CB slots during camp this year…and he’s almost 6′ with a fast enough 4.52 for Lake to maybe work with a bit over the next few months. Go Steelers!

5-11, 186 lbs, 4.52 40, 11 reps on the bench, with short arms and small hands. I don’t know how much he can compete, but hopefully he will pan out.

from his nfl dot com draft capsule: “… Weak, shoddy tackler. ….”

nfl draft scout: “… Belue does need to clean up his tackling technique,…”

Seems to be regarded as a day 3 prospect but unlikely to be a Steeler.

His name is Lake not Houdini.

  • Matt Manzo

It sounds like he was great before the injury! Even played most of the games last year, was just too hurt to produce. Before the injury, it’s said he was the best CB on the team; he started the first year he got there, he was a transfer.
Hopefully he pulls through for us but I worry that if he couldn’t hang with the Dolphins what’s he gonna do for us?

The way people expect Lake to develop players, he should change his name to Kodak.

I dunno … looks athletic … might have a shot at the PS !

  • cp72

He started for Alabama so there has to be a little something there. If he wasn’t any good one of the other 20 four and five star recruits that the Tide gets every year would have out him on the bench

dont know the kid but read some about him ….are pros and cons on him but i got the feeling from what i read and tape he seems to be around the ball alot and thats a good thing i rather have a guy near the ball then have a guy not where hes suppose to be and isnt ..he might not be a tall cb but if hes there to break up or cause a qb to think hes to close and then to look else where gives the def more time to get to qb …maybe hes just a body so time will tell.

For what it’s worth, Sports Illustrated had him ranked as the highest undrafted CB, with a higher grade than Cockrell. So sure, why not?
