Two Steelers Draft Picks Trained This Offseason With CB Ike Taylor

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor swears by his trainer Tom Shaw and with good reason as the 34-year-old always looks chiseled and ready to step onto the football field even in the month of May.

Over the years, Taylor has recruited several of his Steelers teammates to train with him in Orlando, Florida at the Wide World of Sports Complex and that list includes fellow cornerbacks William Gay and Cortez Allen.

You’ll be happy to know that two of Taylor’s newest teammates, draft picks cornerback Shaquille Richardson and running back/wide receiver Dri Archer, also trained with Taylor, Gay and Allen under the watchful eye of Shaw leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft.

At the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, Archer posted the fastest 40-yard dash time of
4.26 seconds to go along with a 38-inch vertical leap and a 6.86 three-cone drill time. As for Richardson, he wasn’t invited to the combine, but his Pro Day numbers included a 4.43 40-yard dash time, a 38.5-inch vertical leap and a 6.95 in the three-cone drill time. Those numbers are just numbers, but their impressive nonetheless.

Time will tell whether or not both Richardson and Archer will have long careers in the NFL, but if they don’t, it probably won’t be because they don’t have their bodies ready to play. Shaw does an amazing job of having athletes in top-notch condition and Taylor is proof of that.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but of Ike/Gay/Allen I can only remember Allen missing time last season. I want to say Allen’s issue was only an ankle during preseason and maybe the first few games of the season?

i think shaw be a good signing to steeler training staff …i been thinking for few years now the training staff is one of the reasons so many have gone down to injuries….

Future Steeler secondary coach Ike T Swag U
And i know he can’t catch

  • John C

So I wonder what Ike’s opinion of these guys are? He always has one about everything.

  • joed32

I wonder how much money he makes.

  • steeltown

That is exactly who I was hoping it was, Richardson… our CBs stick together and train together, im rooting for him.

With a rejuvenated front 7, there is no doubt we see a rejuvenated Ike Taylor this year, especially if Cortez can step forward as the number 1 corner. Perhaps we didn’t take a CB high in the draft because the FO thinks Ike has 2 more years left as a number 2 CB. Sure would like to know his current 40yd time.

Yea he had an ankle that forced him to miss two games, Allen also had a minor knee surgery in the offseason which caused him to miss most of training camp

I hope that another one of the emerging leaders takes this torch from Ike and continues to go to Tom Shaw and encourage others to join him.

The players that do this stay out of trouble all offseason and show up to camp in mid season conditioning shape.

dont know but i am sure hes well worth few million

  • SteelersDepot

probably would be a huge paycut

  • PA2AK

Not sure how NFL rules are, but would he be able to split time between team trainer during season and private trainer in the offseason?

Appears Ike is our #1 Steelers spy, had insider info on these guys before the draft…next year Dave will need to look and see who’s running with Ike before he does his mock 😉

Too bad Tom Shaw can’t fix people’s hand-eye-catch coordination !!

  • HiVul

He also worked out with Johnny Manziel, that would have been an interesting pick at 15 overall haha

  • Jake Marion

I am always wondering the “What if?” concerning Woodley. Could he have had better seasons in 12-13 and 13-14 if he had followed Ike to Florida?

  • Robert L

A lot of the problems that people blamed on Ike were not his fault but Troy’s for being out of position. Hopefully that won’t happen this year.

  • Robert L

I’m sure he is happy with them , specially Richardson being a cornerback that he can mentor. He really likes Martavas Byrant he predicted that the Steelers would make him their 2nd round pick! Ike will teach this guys how to be pros!

  • Robert L

    LOL good one!
