Former Steelers CB Deshea Townsend, Mississippi State Release Statement Following Drug Bust

On Monday, police and the DEA seized 1,500 bricks of heroin,16 firearms, more than $100,000 in cash and jewelry, two luxury vehicles, Cuban cigars and a live chicken during a drug bust of a home that was listed as being owned by former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Deshea Townsend.

When the news originally broke of the bust, Townsend, who currently coaches defensive backs at Mississippi State, was not believed to have had been involved with the two men that were arrested. On Tuesday Mississippi State released a statement that further clarified that.

“Deshea Townsend has learned that arrests occurred at a property titled in his name in the Mount Washington area of Pittsburgh. Although Coach Townsend has not been associated with the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2010, he continues to own investment property in the Pittsburgh area. The property in question was the subject of a lease purchase agreement executed in March 2012. Neither individuals arrested were signatories to the March 2012 lease agreement. Coach Townsend employs a rental agent to conduct his affairs regarding this property and in no way is associated with the activities that may have occurred at a property rented by him to others.”

The Mt. Washington property that Townsend owns where the drug bust took place was apparently the subject of a lease purchase agreement that was executed in March 2012 and neither of the two individuals that were arrested on Monday during the bust were signatories to that agreement.

There is no word yet as to what role the chicken played in all of this, but it’s great to know that Townsend had zero involvement.

was reading a write up of all the assorted ‘goods’ found in the home. the laundry list of drugs, guns, cash etc. was finished off with ‘and a live chicken.’ haha I lost it…i guess some stories just write themselves.

that’s great and all…but what we really want to know is “wheres the chicken?!”

  • Dr. Funkenstein

It starts reading like a seriously dangerous drug ring. Then you get to the chicken, and it turns into the craziest bachelor party you’ve ever been to. The only thing that could make it better is a stripper named Sweet Pea.

The chicken has to do with a sacrifice with La Santa Muerte. Pittsburgh now not only has a heroin problem, you will soon see signs of south of the border drug cartel activity.

Either that, or as Woody Allen said: “My brother thinks he’s a chicken. We’d get him some help, but we need the eggs.”

Maybe it wasn’t a chicken, but a penguin wearing a rubber glove.
(Wallace & Gromit would need to deal with it.)

  • James Kling

The chicken’s the ringleader. Oh sure, the cops will let him go, and realize their mistake too late… Just like Verbal Kint fooled ’em into thinking someone else was Keyser Soze…

Well all the drugs, guns, money is minor stuff, but if someone harmed a chicken we are talking serious jail time.

  • Richard Clinton

Is it legal to house a live chicken in Pittsburgh? In other words, is Pittsburgh a chicken free zone?

i wonder how many property owners out there have same prob where this stuff happened on there property ..

  • MP34

I think it is? I know Green Tree residents have them. I just get eggs at the store.

I think the chicken is in the distribution side of the operation.
