Report: Free Agent CB Brandon Flowers Has No Plans To Visit Steelers

Free agent cornerback Brandon Flowers remains unsigned following his Thursday visit with the San Diego Chargers, but according to a Friday report, he isn’t currently scheduled to visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Scott Brown of reports Friday that according to a source of his, the former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback has no plans to visit with the Steelers even though a Wednesday report by Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports included Pittsburgh as one of several teams that were monitoring Flowers’ situation.

When asked on Thursday if the team was open to signing any free agents prior to the start of training camp, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin gave the usual company line when he responded to the question.

“I’m not opposed to anything that will increase our chances of winning. We’re open to all possibilities,” Tomlin said at the conclusion of offseason practices.

In a Thursday evening report, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that a source had informed him that Flowers will visit at least one other team before making a decision as to where to play in 2014. So far, the Chargers are the only team that he’s reportedly visited.

  • Can’t say anything that you and Alex didn’t address in yesterday’s podcast. He’s not going to be a Steeler in 2014. Period. Even if he’d take a relatively small deal for one year, where does he play?

  • Matt Manzo

Anyone know how all the rookie CBs, that we thought we were gonna draft, are doing in camp? ie: Desir, Reynolds, SJB?

  • Virdin Barzey

    Fine by me.

  • Leon Mcnair

He would start opposite Ike duhh

  • Leon Mcnair

They should sign him, him and Ike with gay and Allen noce

  • steelster

have you done your research on this guy, no thanks.

  • Douglas Andrews

Just not gonna happen. 5’9″ slot cover corner. We have guys on the current roster that can be that type of CB.

  • steelster

and for a lot less money

  • Flowers isn’t an upgrade for us.

  • Weiss Chad

No thx I’d rather have Cortez Allen there

I wouldn’t have a problem with the signing because it does seem like we would have a good shot at him. A shutdown slot who can play outside if needed that’s a nice player to have.

  • He’s a better inside guy, and besides, there’s a guy named Cortez opposite Ike, and he’s basically our #1 at this point. And I’d prefer to keep Gay where he is.
