Report: Steelers To Sign California University WR CJ Goodwin

According to a Tuesday report on Twitter by WKKX Radio in Wheeling, WV, the Pittsburgh Steelers will be signing California University undrafted free agent wide receiver CJ Goodwin.

Goodwin caught 11 passes for 131 yards and one touchdown in 2013.

At his Pro Day, Goodwin reportedly ran a 4.41 second 40-yard-dash.

I should note that the Steelers have yet to confirm this transaction. If indeed Goodwin is to be signed, it could be at the expense of undrafted free agent wide receiver Jasper Collins, who was sidelined last week during the first set of OTA practices with an unspecified injury.

It’s hard to imagine how significant these moves are for the players involved.

    SUPER BOWL!!!!!!!

  • Kurt Williams

    I immediately thought he would be a 5-9 180 guy. But 6-3 190…for what it’s worth.

  • moonunit1

Actually, he’s 6′ 180. Good straight line speed but terrible lateral quickness. Easy cut

  • Kelly Johnson

Why the lack of production? Anyone know? At 6’3” and a 4.41 40 time. That’s all good to see but curious as to why his production was not very good.

I found more information on CJ Goodwin the home builder than this player. This must be a favor to someone….

  • Kurt Williams

Awesome! 11 catches for 126 yds and 1 td last year will put one in the obscure category. Camp body.

    One camp body replacing another.

  • Alex Kozora

Stuck behind some very good receivers at Cal. Mike Williams was one of the best in the PSAC. Trey Johnson was a tiny dude but super dangerous.

Went back and watched some Cal games. Goodwin mainly played on STs. Kick coverage and punt returns from what I could tell. Lot of value in guys who are experienced in that area. Remember, the Bengals drafted a WR who didn’t catch a single pass in 2013.

His college production totaled 35 catches for 566 yards at 16.17 ypc.

Saw a Detroit Combine Tape and liked how he caught the ball with his hands out from his body. He has very good speed with some quickness. Supposedly ran a low of 4.38 at some point. Steelers bringing in another very fast guy. Was a tailback in High School I think. Good athlete that might actually make a decent CB if given the chance. Certainly has the body for it.
