Steelers To Announce Maurkice Pouncey Extension During Afternoon Press Conference

The Pittsburgh Steelers will hold a 1 p.m. news conference on Thursday to announce the five-year extension given to center Maurkice Pouncey.

According to early reports, Pouncey received roughly $44 million in new money as part of the extension and that includes a $13 million signing bonus.

Pouncey, who is now under contract through the 2019 season, has made it all the way back from the serious knee injury that suffered last year in the season-opener against the Tennessee Titans.

Pouncey will turn 25 in July and was drafted by the Steelers with the 18th overall selection in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Florida.

Just no pleasing some people. Im pretty sure the rest of us knew at some point over the next calendar year that Pouncey would be the highest paid Center. Im not sure why it’s so surprising or dumbfounding for some..

Set aside last year’s injury, the character stuff, and whether any center is worth that much of your cap. For me, it’s surprising because he has not performed anything like the best center in the NFL. In 2012 he was somewhere around adequate. As I would imagine has been posted on one of the Pouncey threads already, PFF (for whatever it’s worth) has never ranked him above 12th among NFL centers.

I dont understand why guys are counting the rooneys pockets like its their own money….

  • Ike Evans

How did he get 3 all pros then if hes barely average in your estimation? And what character issue?

  • steeltown

    Man he was emotional

  • Paddy

They have a legit all pro center who can only get better. Leader of offense Ben excluded

It seems as though the past two yrs the franchise made some great decisions in the 2013/2014 Draft; made some great decisions during Free Agency this year as well. But it also seems as though they made a couple of questionable decisions as well. In 2013 they waisted a 4th RD Draft pick by drafting Landry Jones that didn’t even dress for a game in 2013; in 2014 they selected Dri Archer with the 3rd pick, will he pay dividends for a 3rd RD pick? Time will only tell. Pouncey? I think Pouncey is a good Center, but not a great Center. I think he is not durable, although the injury last year wasn’t his fault, and we can’t fault him for that. But I just don’t think he is worth the money they gave him. Why not tie up Cortez Allen, he will not be that expensive, and then tie up Big Ben? Although Ben isn’t in the same class as Peyton Manning and Brady, I still think he can be the best QB after those two when he plays the game the way he did down the stretch in 2013.

Dude, we all know the All Star voting is a Joke! Guys are selected based on popularity.

  • Steelers@2010

We’re just Fans, just like you. We all have our own opinions and they mean absolutely nothing to the Rooney’s or Mike Tomlin.

  • Ike Evans

I said all pro….not all star….all pro is not voted on by the public

  • Steelers@2010

lol. You know what I mean.
