The Terrible Podcast – Talking Maurkice Pouncey Contract Extension, Week 3 OTAs & More Episode

Season 4, Episode 110 of The Terrible Podcast is up and with co-host David Todd still not back settled, Alex Kozora joins me once again to talk about all of the latest news surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In this episode, Alex and I talk about the recent five-year contract extension given to center Maurkice Pouncey on Thursday. We break down the early numbers for you and discuss how upset several Steelers fans seem to be after the deal was announced.

With the Pouncey deal now done, Alex and I discuss which player might be in line next for an extension. We differ in our thoughts on one of these players during a healthy conversation.

The Steelers third week of OTA practices are now in the books, so we discuss the week that was and what we look forward to hearing about next week when the mandatory minicamp gets underway.

Thanks for listening and don’t forget to call or email with questions or comments and please pass us along to your friends!

$2.5 per year for Allen isn’t going to happen. If he signed a deal for that, his agent sucks.

Sometimes we as fans forget, the Rooneys are very loyal people. When a player proves himself as a “true Steeler” the Rooneys usually reward him, buying doing what it takes to keep that player.

Pouncey has proven himself to be a vocal leader, a fierce competitor, an unselfish team player, and he plays at a very high skill level. When you pay a guy like that, it serves as an example to other players about the “Steeler way”.

The Rooneys are trying to build the “new Steelers”. You need building block type guys. I believe Pouncey is one of those. So is Antonio Brown, Cameron Heyward. Apparently those guys cost between $8-9 million/year?

Keenan Lewis signed for about $5 million/yr with $10.5 mil guaranteed (which I think is very fair considering his upside).

Cortez Allen has not proven himself to be better Keenan as of right now. So if I’m extending him now I’m offering $4.2 million/yr with $8 mil guaranteed.

    Injury prone? Somewhat…
Coming off a major injury? Absolutely
This is a big contract for the center position. Not a big fan, but does show a commitment to a team leader despite the injury. Hope it pays off.
