Panthers Sign Former Steelers C Fernando Velasco

Former Pittsburgh Steelers center Fernando Velasco finally has a new home as it was announced on Wednesday that he has signed with the Carolina Panthers.

Velasco, who was signed last year by the Steelers after starting center Maurkice Pouncey was lost for the season in the opener against the Tennessee Titans, started 11 straight games at center before tearing his Achilles’ late in the Week 13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Velasco, who broke into the league in 2008 as an undrafted free agent with Titans, will likely be battling to backup Panthers starting center Ryan Kalil during training camp.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

With all the problems we’ve had at the Center position lately, we should have tried to keep this guy.

Good luck with the Panthers Fernando. You helped us out last year. Hopefully the ACL will get back to 100% for you.

Good things happen to people who DON’T attend Pouncey birthday parties.

    good for him

    Good for him.

He played well as an emergency starter and probably should get another shot at playing full time again. Since the Panthers are in a rebuilding mode, Velasco probably has a much better shot with them than he does with the Steelers right now barring injury.
