Roethlisberger Pays Tribute To Keisel By Wearing No. 99 On Day One Of Camp

Veteran defensive Brett Keisel remains unsigned, but Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is honoring him during the first team practice of training camp by wearing a yellow jersey with the No. 99 on it.

This does not surprise me one bit and I even talked about that being a possibility a month ago when Roethlisberger discussed a possible return of Keisel during his golf tournament.

“I think he looks good,” Roethlisberger said of Keisel back in June. “I think if he has to miss training camp, I don’t think he’ll be too upset with that. I think we should bring him in right as training camp is over, even though he’s my roommate in training camp. I’d like for him to be there. We always have a good time, but I think that he should come back and another year of leadership would be great.”

During the offseason, Keisel’s agent said that his client would rather retire than play for the minimum. However, Keisel reportedly has yet to clean out his locker at the Steelers facility and that leads one to believe that there’s still a chance that he will be re-signed prior to the start of the regular season.

On Friday, Keisel wished the players luck on his Twitter account. This will be the first year that he’s not been at Latrobe for the start of training camp since 2002.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

I like that. Hoping to see Brett back before game 1 (Harrison wouldn’t hurt anything either – even if just for depth).

Im beating the drum for harrison…. i dont get why he isnt under contract yet… we are at the thinnest i can ever remember and have a decent player basically begging us to let him play

I definently prefer Harrison over kiesel there is no need for kiesel we have plenty of body’s for the dline we need certified outside linebackers

Ben looks good. Looks to be in great shape

I think the Steelers will bring Keisel back in week 2 so they don’t have to guarentee his contract for the full season.

He comes in with a reduced cap hit with a vet contract, still a bargain at week 1.

I think we need both Harrison and Kiesel, the lack of depyh at OLB is evident but our DL could use some veteran presence also (Thomas, Tuitt, Arnfelt, all so unexperienced)

Awesome !! Class act Ben !!

Maybe because He is old and slow that is why no one else has signed him and that is why the Steelers should not sign him.
