Roster Move Likely Forthcoming For Steelers

We can probably expect the Pittsburgh Steelers to make a roster move this week after losing backup center David Snow for an extended amount of time to a fractured foot.

Snow, who suffered the injury midway through the Steelers Saturday practice, will require surgery and most likely will be waived injured. After clearing waivers, Snow should revert back to the Steelers reserve/injured list.

One would think that the Steelers would sign a center capable offensive lineman to fill Snow’s spot on the 90 man roster, but there’s no guarantee that happens.

Rookie fifth-round draft pick Wesley Johnson has reportedly already taken some reps as the third-team center during the first two practices and being as starting left guard Ramon Foster is expected to re-join the team Monday following the unexpected death of his mother, the team might decide to add a player to fill another position instead.

At this point I’d be surprised if they went to Keisel or Harrison but anything can happen. Dave, do you think they will do something today or wait a couple of days before signing someone?

    My quess is a rb

If they don’t sign another OL then I could see a kicker being brought in. I don’t care if Suisham is our man, competition is always good and injury can happen at any time.

Wesley Johnson is really getting an opportunity to show off his versatility. I hope he proves he’s worth it.

Any OLBs out there that we could bring in? Harrison?

Fernando would have been ideal right about now though that price may be more than what they were willing.

    Alan Baxter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • steelant

wow chris rainey has justed been waived by colts

    Damn…wish we would’ve signed Velasco.

Wallace was a lot cheaper and he was fine after Velasco got hurt. I think Velasco hopes to become a starter again and with Pouncey only being 25 years old, he didn’t see it happening here.

I don’t know why they don’t give Alan Baxter another look !!!

  • Edward

If he was healthy, they should have kept Franando Velasco.

There are four lineman out there who are worth a look. First is Travelle Wharton who was viewed as one of this year’s best FA guards. He’s 33 years old and while he’s claimed he’s considering retirement, he probably just a savvy veteran who’s waiting for camps to wind down before he signs. The second is Richie Incognito, who for a number of reasons the Steelers probably don’t want to have anything to do with. His non-football related issues are one thing; his talent level on the field is another. The guy can play in the middle of an offensive line. Third is Eric Winston, who’s technically a tackle, and I included him because I have zero faith in Mike Adams. I don’t know if he plays inside, but he’s probably the best lineman available right now. The last player is the guy who might prove to be most interesting. Kyle Cook has been the starting C for the Bengals since 2009, but was cut this past March. He just turned 31 a few days ago, so he’s not over-the-hill as far as back-up interior lineman are concerned, and besides being 6’3″ 315 lbs., he’s got inside knowledge of the Bengals, which won’t hurt his stock any.
