Steelers To Wear 1934 Bumblebee Throwback Jerseys In 2014 Against Colts

Looks like the Pittsburgh Steelers aren’t ready to pack away the bumblebee throwback jerseys just yet.

According to Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the Steelers will wear the 1934 throwbacks again in 2014 in the game against the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 26.

The striped jerseys were brought back originally during the 2012 season to celebrate the Steelers 80th season in the NFL. They were worn that season in the home games against the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens.

Last season, the Steelers wore them once in the home game against the Detroit Lions.

not to be hated on by everyone or anything, but i actually like the jerseys

  • Lil Smitty

Its the pants. The color is just weird. The jersey is better than the one with the building on it.

  • SfSteeler

the pants look like poo, but the top is cool…i wonder what our record is wearing the beez?

  • SG

Enough with them already. Go back to years that actually mean something to somebody, like 1972.

  • Johnny Loose

love these uniforms. steelers look awesome playing in them

  • AzheDraven

2-1 if i remember correctly, Defeated Redskins and Lions and lost to those damn ratbirds.

  • AzheDraven

    Yay! I love these.
But maybe they should use this season a “remake” of their uniforms from 1974 without the italic numbers (when did they started using those numbers?)

  • AzheDraven

Or you meant like in 1934? probably that one isnt that good like 2-1 lol

  • steelster

Love the bumble bee uniforms. Hope they do this every year.

  • SG

1997 I believe was when they went with the rounded, italic numbers. I’d love a return to the block style.

  • AzheDraven

Thank you. I was killing myself trying to get that answer. They would look cool using the non italic numbers.

  • Jonas

As much as I like these bumblebee jerseys, I also would like to see our alternate uniforms with the yellow helmet again!

Still, nothing’s better than our good ol’ black and gold jerseys..!

  • Jonas

Actually, I think the pants makes this retro and therefore cool for me..

  • Jonas

Well, we were our legendary home jersey like we did back then!

I even think that design was introduced right in 68, one year before the arrival of Mean Joe.

  • superfan

I like those uniforms, too. Unfortunately, I think the NFL has told teams not to wear alternate helmets anymore.

  • westcoasteeler

    Love it!

  • Jonas

Oh okay, thanks! No Fun League, I see..

  • rayster

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee….!

  • Brendon Glad

To quote the great Flavor Flav…”yeah buoyyyyyyyyy!!!!!” I love those things. And if the Nation would just listen to me and do a unison bumblebee buzzzzzz when the opponent has the ball during those special games, it would be the most disorienting homefield advantage in sports!!!! Keep the bumblebee games coming mr. Rooney!!!!

  • Rick Eger

    I love the throwbacks!

  • Big White

I want to see the 60’s early 70’s steeler unis! You know, the all white, black shoes(w/white laces) and grey face masks.

  • SWEET!! love those unis

  • Paddy

I think they have to wear them 5 years, so It will be a while until the next one. Instead of a throwback why not just a third jersey that’s differnet than the norm

  • StrengthOfVictory

I don’t mind the jerseys all that much, but I can’t handle the socks. Just too much. The socks make the uniform look like something out of Dr. Seuss. Almost like the players are wearing a striped unitard with pants overtop. You can get away with ONE striped garment. Striped jersey, tan pants, black socks. Done.

And let’s not forget, the Steelers should be 3-0 in these. No excuse for not taking the game against Baltimore (when they seemed to have no interest in winning, and Flacco couldn’t complete a pass). Especially since I still can’t understand the call at 3rd and 2 from the Baltimore 4 yard line. (Run it twice, you idiots!!)

  • blackandgoldBullion

Excellent idea! But now that you mention it, how about using those “Voovoozelas” like they had in 2014 in South Africa for the World Cup! They would be louder than Seattle! Oh wait. The NFL would never allow it. Crap!
