Tomlin Says Joint Camp Practices With Bills Will Provide Some Interesting Things Schematically

Several weeks from now, the Buffalo Bills will be in Latrobe to partake in a couple of joint training camp practices with the Pittsburgh Steelers. During his first training camp press conference of 2014, head coach Mike Tomlin talked about the benefits of practicing against the Bills this year.

“It’s going to help us in team development,” said Tomlin. “They’re a young team that provides some interesting things schematically for us. They’ve got a high-paced offense with a mobile quarterbacks. They’ve got four down defensive linemen. So those things are good working things for us because they’re unlike us.”

The current plan is for the Steelers to travel next year to practice against the Bills at their training camp home in Pittsford, N.Y. and Tomlin didn’t rule out joint practices with other teams as an annual event moving forward.

“If it’s appropriate,” said Tomlin. “Again, I thought it was appropriate for this group. Excited about having an opportunity to do it here this year and we’ll see how it goes.”

The Bills will travel to Latrobe for an afternoon practice on Aug. 13 and a night practice on Aug. 14. The two teams will then square off against each other at Heinz Field a few days later.
