Contract Numbers For Steelers DE Brett Keisel

The numbers of the two-year contract extension signed a few days ago by Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel are now in.

Brian McIntyre reports on Twitter that the contract totals out at $3 million just like Mike Prisuta of DVE Radio reported on Wednesday. Keisel, however, only received a $500,000 signing bonus.

Keisel’s base salaries for years 2014-2015 are scheduled to be $1 million and $1.5 million.

In reality, this is a one-year, $1.5 million deal as it’s unlikely Keisel will be retained next season. If he is released next offseason, he will carry a measly $250,000 dead money charge.

Below is a break down of the contract along with the cap charges based on those numbers.

YEARBASE SALARYSIGNING BONUSWO BONUSROSTER BONUSCAP CHARGE
2014 $1,000,000.00 $250,000.00 $0 $0 $1,250,000.00
2015 $1,500,000.00 $250,000.00 $0 $0 $1,750,000.00

little good news for a day and half of bad …from his comments hes glad he got a last shot it seems its what he wanted badly to end his career as a steeler not on the steeler/ariz team ..where ex steelers go to retire at …lets hope he has a great season

  • Who knows? If he has a really good year, they may keep him for the second year as well.

1.5MIL this year w/ 250K dead money next… very nice

We could get Harrison for something like these numbers

  • StarSpangledSteeler

For all those people predicting Chris Carter on your 53 man rosters…

Would you rather have Harrison or Carter at OLB?

  • frednash

    You got to kidding

    Harrison by far

  • Jon Crissinger

    No it’d be 1.5 total. 1.25M this year (1M w/ 250k bonus) and 250k next season

  • steeltown

    Indeed

  • steelster

    Neither

  • steeltown

According to overthecap, which is already updated with Keisel and Gilbert’s numbers, this puts the Steelers down to the 3rd lowest amount of cap space remaining for 2014 at $4.3M. They need to keep at least $3M to account for the rosters expanding to 53 in 2 weeks, and a few injury replacements during the season. Does that leave room for 1 more extension (Cortez)? Yes, but it will be tight. Only if he takes a modest signing bonus.

HOJO! Call Harrison during the season if there are injuries!
