Report: Steelers Trying To Extend Contract Of CB Cortez Allen Before Preseason Ends

With just a few weeks left to go before the start of the 2014 regular season, all eyes remain on the contract situation with Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Cortez Allen, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract

By the sound of things, the team is trying to get an extension done with the former fourth-round draft pick. According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers are indeed still trying to work out a contract extension with the Citadel product before the preseason ends.

So far this offseason, the Steelers have gotten extensions done with center Maurkice Pouncey, kicker Shaun Suisham and tackle Marcus Gilbert. We have speculated for a while that Allen would be a priority this offseason, but up until now, there’s been no real talk about a deal getting done.

Back in June, I speculated that a five-year, $20 million contract (four-year extension) with $9 million guaranteed could get the job done for both sides. We don’t have long to wait until we see if the two sides can get things hammered out and I’m still willing to bet that they do.

    Why he sucks

  • Need a good yr Tez’

  • joed32

And who do we have that’s better? Or even as good?

  • pittsburghjoe

I hope they can lock him in under 9 million guaranteed. The numbers seem fine otherwise.

  • Taylor20

if out front seven can get after the QB, ‘Tez seems to find the ball pretty easily

  • Ryan

Tell that to Gronk. He didnt have great season last year but he wasnt gettin smoked either.

  • steeltown

That would be a pleasant surprise

All these Cortez haters seem to forget this is only going to be his 4th season. Everyone was ready to cut K Lewis at this point in his career as well and now everyone cant stop crying that we let him walk.

    KLewis first 3 aeason – 29 games 1 start 1Int 0 TD 1FF 0FR 30Tkls

    Allen first 3 seasons – 44games 11 start 4int 1TD 3FF 1FR 99tkls

Lets see what he does this year before you start with the hate.

Also remember it was Cortez who kept Gronk in pretty good check.

The KLewis comparison doesn’t matter much now. Lewis has turned into a top 10 corner, while we’re still waiting on this guy.

After that eagles game they might want to put this on Ice

  • Steel PAul

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Cortez has not shown to be better than average during any stretch of his career.

Why would they sign him to a big deal???

In Lewis defense though, it wasn’t from lack of talent. Every year at camp he was turning heads and was given the opportunity to start in year 2 when McFadden went down. But after that horrific meltdown in Denver, he was in Tomlin’s doghouse until Lake came along. Lake couldn’t even figure out why he wasn’t playing.
