Steelers Injury Report: Spaeth, Mitchell Both Expected Back Tuesday

The Pittsburgh Steelers have now wrapped up their Monday training camp practice and afterwards head coach Mike Tomlin updated the injury report.

Tomlin said that while rookie linebacker Ryan Shazier (knee/leg) did return to practice Monday, he was limited in his participation. Safety Mike Mitchell (undisclosed) and tight end Matt Spaeth (undisclosed) also sat out the Monday session but Tomlin indicated that both should return to work Tuesday and that both players are only dealing with minor bumps and bruises.

Tight end Michael Palmer (ankle), who missed the Saturday night preseason opener against the New York Giants, is currently dealing with an ankle injury, according to Tomlin. In addition to Palmer, wide receiver Justin Brown (thumb) was also limited Monday with a thumb injury. The head coach said both players will be monitored.

“Overall, from a health standpoint, we’re doing pretty good and we need to, because we need to put a good exclamation point on the remaining work here in Latrobe,” said Tomlin.

The team was also able to get nose tackle Steve McLendon (concussion) and wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey (concussion) back practicing again on Monday.

The Steelers now only have three practices remaining at Saint Vincent College before breaking camp on Friday. Two of those practices will be scrimmages against the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday and Thursday.
