Steelers Not Expected To Announce First Wave Of Roster Cuts Until Tuesday

It looks like we’ll be waiting a little bit longer for the Pittsburgh Steelers to announce their first wave of roster cuts.

According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers will wait until Tuesday morning to announce how their roster will be trimmed down to the league mandated 75 players. The deadline is 4:00 p.m. EST so it appears they’re in no hurry and could very well be watching the waiver wire to see if any notable names are released between now and then.

The team is expected to practice on Monday, however, so it will be interesting to see if all 90 players currently on the roster are observed by the media as being in attendance. This assumes that the media will even have access to practice.

Several teams around the league have already trimmed their rosters down to 75 players and more league-wide cuts are expected to be announced later on Monday.

well hope CB, punter, and nose tackle are on the agenda.

  • Steelers12328882

I hope their first cut is the 2-4-5 defense.

  • Jason

Please be Landry Jones, please be Landry Jones

  • falconsaftey43

Yeah it doesn’t seem to be working at all. At least cut it from the 1st and 2nd down. Need to stop the run better on the early downs.

  • Weiss Chad

If DhB gets past these cuts I think he makes the roster .If they didn’t want him I think they would waive him tommorow to give him time to get w another team

  • pat

If Landry is going to be cut it wont be til after the last preseason game

  • falconsaftey43

That was supposed to be the benefit of having a guy like Shazier, you can stay in your base defense because he has a unique skill set, but instead they continue with only 2 DL.

  • pat

You make a great point same could be said for any vet

  • srdan

DHB has been the second best receiver on the team through the preseason. We all said that if he doesn’t drop balls that he is on the team when he arrived in March. It held. I don’t have any expectation of him getting the ax.

On top of all that he is starting to excel on ST.

  • steeltown

Exactly, we ALL knew Shazier would need to be ‘covered’ in order to be effective, hard to cover when you have 2DL and 2OLB as your 4man front

  • RMSteeler

Rams lost Bradford and going with a backup. Maybe a trade of Landry Jones for a draft pick?

  • PA2AK

that is in spite of not usually getting a look until far down the chart

  • Ethan Marines

i saw the seahawks released jackson jeffcoat…the steelers should be on the phone right now!!!!!

  • PA2AK

is it just me, or are most people not usually excited about picking up a teams’ casualties of the first roster cuts?

  • Ethan Marines

im not so sure this is that type situation. jeffcoat is an olb/de tweener that had a good college career. i can imagine that it would be hard to break that seahawks roster with the depth they have already!

  • PA2AK

Undrafted…cut first day…DE….I’d rather look at their vet CB that they cut considering our needs.

  • steeltown

Steelers did bring him in for a pre-draft visit, but currently we have a log jam at the (under developed) DE/OLB position(s)

  • Ethan Marines

i agree with shopping for a cb…but iwould like to see some depth at olb. i dont get a warm fuzzy feeling with arthur moats and chris carter.

  • Jason

I what universe would anyone trade for Landry jones? Hopefully you were joking but in case you weren’t watch some of his game tape and you’ll see we couldn’t get a 7th rounder for him.

  • Jason

    True. Got a bit excited

  • justafanlikeyou

His name is the only name I will be looking for. If he makes it by this round I expect him to make the 53 for the same reason you mentioned. I’m hoping he makes the 53. He has shown more than JB so he has earned it. I’m not expecting any surprises in any of the other names cut.

  • cencalsteeler

Smart move by the fo. Sit back and see what becomes available from other teams releases. Then you can make decisions based on availability.

  • 2443scott

i can see them waiting that way if some one is released who fits the steelers they can go after them if not then they still didnt release any one who they might keep..

  • Bradys_Dad

Problem is, we need several more Shaziers and fewer 3rd tier DBs.

  • RMSteeler

There’s a special universe for a few teams that make bad trades all the time. Even one in AFC North. There was plenty of tape on a guy like Sanchez and he’s still playing. Even a seventh rd pick would be better than nothing.

  • Jason

Sanchez took his team to 2 afc title games and while it could be argued they were there in spite of him that’s a little better resume than Landry jones

  • Steve

JJeffcoat has been hurt the past 2 years. May have trouble passing physical.

  • Tiger Jimmy

Steelers back then invited Bruce Davis and Cliff Avril pre draft visit.. they took Davis with a echoing thud.

  • Steelers12328882

Can’t be hatin’ on Sanchez after he just took apart our 1st team defense for 2 TD drives.

  • (hate)49ers

    Terrell Thomas anyone?
