Several Steelers Players Already Ruled Out For Eagles Game

The Pittsburgh Steelers will play the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday night on the road and head coach Mike Tomlin ruled out several players for the team’s third preseason game during his Tuesday press conference.

Tight end Eric Waters (concussion), guard Bryant Browning (shoulder), cornerback Shaquille Richardson (lateral knee), center Cody Wallace (finger fracture), long snapper Greg Warren (knee) and linebacker Jordan Zumwalt (groin) were all ruled out for the Eagles game.

Several players are questionable for Thursday night with soft tissue injuries and that list includes fullback Will Johnson (hamstring), safety Will Allen (hamstring), running back Tauren Poole (hamstring) and cornerback Devin Smith (hamstring).

Linebacker Jarvis Jones (groin) is expected to play Thursday night after practicing Monday. Jones missed the Saturday night game against the Buffalo Bills.

    Bummed about Richardson and Zumwalt!

  • Pitfan0513

Out are, basically all the guys who had to make a move to make this roster! LOL

  • steeltown

They have an uphill battle just to make the PS at this point.

  • Deuce22

Excited to see our linebacking corps all together!

  • Timothy Rea

Makes 2 drafted CB’s in 2 years that aren’t making the team. For a team whose CB’s aren’t strong these are tough blows to take.

  • Jake Miller

Man, that seals Zumwalt’s chances on making the 53. Hopefully he can get some good experience with the practice squad.

  • steeltown

With the PS being increased to 10 this season, I think Richardson has a good chance of sticking around. The jury is still out.

  • Jacque Strappe

Agreed. In my best Bart Scott…..Can’t Wait!

  • Eric MacLaurin

Can anyone give me a reason we wouldn’t take advantage of the new rules and open the season in a spread?

If we put Antonio, Wheat, Dri and Bryant out on patterns what teams has the CB depth to match up? 6 DB’s would be hard pressed to keep them under control in which case Bell can leak out against no one.

  • Ray

    Bryant Browning????

  • Steelers12328882

I’ll give you two. Heath Miller and Matt Spaeth.

  • Matt Manzo

Yeah! That’s the spot that bums me out the most. I thought for sure we’d leave this draft with 2 CBs that could play.
Really hoping Mcain and Blake can step up!

  • Matt Manzo

I’m pretty sure Shaq makes the PS, but they might just release Zumwalt w/ no PS invite?

  • Eric MacLaurin

So you wouldn’t take advantage of new rules and a mismatch because you like big slow guys?

  • Mark_K

“Tomlin said Wallace is recovering from surgery he needed to fix a broken finger.” Wonder if that’s why he came out for the 4th quarter against the Bills?

  • SteelersDepot

Tomlin must be unaware that he was waived/injured. lol – In his defense, however, Browning should clear waivers and revert back to the reserve/injured list.

  • Steelers12328882

You asked for a reason why “we”, the Steelers, wouldn’t open the season in the spread with AB, Wheaton, Dri and Bryant. I gave you 2 reasons, because those 2 players will play a prominent role on the offense. I never said I liked big slow guys or that’s what I would do if I was offensive coordinator of the Steelers, but TEs catch passes too. I’m pretty sure the illegal contact rule applies to TEs and the players covering them.

  • steeltown

Depth at ILB is plentiful, not so much at CB, that alone should help Richardsons chances

  • cencalsteeler

I have a hunch they’ll address cb in free agency like they did with Mitchell. They’re obviously cursed at drafting them.

  • Matt Manzo

I was hoping Zum could move to OLB. He was one of my guys. At least Bell, Shazier, and McCullers made it!!! Really hoping Desir doesn’t start shutting people down!

  • stellarsfan

Definitely excited to see Jones, Timmons, Shazier, and Worilds as a unit out there. If HoJo and So’oto make another splash play or two can we say goodbye to Carter please?? He won’t be around next year anyway..

  • Ken

I’m hoping Eric Waters makes it to the practice squad. He had everything setup for him on that screen and took off like a rocket and past his blockers! But once he figures it out, I think he has real potential.

  • Ray

lol..can we get David Todd to make sure Tomlin knows guys who are waived/injured or on IR are not eligible to play in games anyways?? Sorry thats the Dave Bryan sarcasm effect

  • GoSteelerz

Presuming he plays, the stage is set for Toler to shine… Or fail miserably… For his sake, and ours, I hope it’s the former, we need one of these CB’s to develop into something special… At this point if we could have 2 CBs on the PS that would be good, more guys in the mix to have a chance to develop, or at least know what we have (or don’t have) so we can plan for the future when Ike Taylor steps down. It’s going to be exciting finding out which ones will make it!
