Steelers Injury Report Following Loss To Panthers

The Pittsburgh Steelers dropped their 2014 preseason finale Thursday night to the Carolina Panthers and after the game head coach Mike Tomlin updated the injury situation during his post game press conference.

According to Tomlin, rookie wide receiver Martavis Bryant suffered an AC sprain to his right shoulder and cornerback Brice McCain suffered a right groin injury of some kind.

“We’ll evaluate both of those guys as quickly as possible and get some direction in terms of the length of time and so forth for them,” said Tomlin.

The Steelers also lost safety Mike Mitchell to a leg injury in the first half Thursday night but Tomlin said during halftime that his injury wasn’t serious.

Rookie draft picks linebacker Jordan Zumwalt (groin) and cornerback Shaquille Richardson (knee) both sat out the Thursday night game and Tomlin indicated that neither were close to being able to play. He was then asked if either were a candidate for the short-term injured reserve to start the season.

“All of our options are on the table regarding those guys and others,” he said. “We’re going to do what’s best for our football team and work to get the best, strongest 53 available to us with an eye toward the opener.”

The Steelers will host the Cleveland Browns in the regular season opener a week from Sunday at Heinz Field and their final roster cuts will need to be made by 4 p.m. Saturday evening.
