Steelers LB Vince Williams Leaves Tuesday’s Practice On A Cart

There’s a new injury to report Tuesday as Pittsburgh Steelers second-year linebacker Vince Williams has been taken off the field on a cart. According to several reports on Twitter, the severity and nature of the injury are not yet known.

Williams, who was drafted by the Steelers in the sixth-round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Florida State, is currently the backup buck linebacker behind starter Lawrence Timmons.

As a rookie, Williams started 11 games in 2013 after starter Larry Foote was lost for the year to a biceps injury in the season opener.

In the Saturday night preseason opener against the New York Giants, Williams played 26 snaps on defense and was credited with five total tackles and a quarterback hurry.

SH@T!!!! …I read that Shazier has his knee wrapped up again too!

    ah man not VW

Its all good buddy, Spence looks like he never was hurt. I’m not even certain if Timmons went down that Williams would be the next man up with Spence coming back healthy and Garvin showing he’s more than capable in coverage.

Being taken off in a cart usually is a leg injury (Knee, foot, ankle)

Maybe it was just a boo-boo.

  • Steve

    Boo-Boos usually don’t require a cart unless its a HUGH Boo-Boo (HA)!

Lol stubbed toe? Hangnail? Haha but seriously that’s usually something serious. At least it wasn’t a starter….

  • Shut up Stupid

Geez it’s a good thing you put that @ symbol there. I have no idea what word that is now

  • Jacque Strappe

Saying concussion. Thankful it’s not a leg boo boo.

  • John Hinton

If so they just have to follow the protocol.

  • Steve

Vince is my favorite Steeler Thumper right now. Any player is one play away from starting.

Williams is the main BUCK backup… Spence, Shazier and Garvin are definitely geared toward the MAC position.

After the way Williams played last year and the depth we have at the position, this isn’t a big deal. I know I’m going to be the minority on this one, but Dan Molls (loved him out of Toledo as a ball hawk tackling machine) and Zumwalt both provide solid depth/special teams and can fill in. Williams isn’t a 3 down LB, and clearly when Troy was moved to his position because neither Williams or Garvin (or anyone else on the roster) could fill the spot, it’s time to look else where for depth.

The way the game is played traditional Mack and buck linebackers are becoming interchangeable. LBs who can play in space and cover are more valuable today then down hill/ run and hit lbs like Williams.

I agree the position is becoming more muddied, but as you can see from the BUF game for example, Timmons at the BUCK position is taking on blocks more now allowing Shazier to flow to the ball, like Farrior did before allowing Timmons to flow to the ball
