Steelers Place LB Jordan Zumwalt On Injured Reserve, Claim CB B.W. Webb Off Waivers

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a few transactions Friday evening as they have placed rookie linebacker Jordan Zumwalt on the Reserve/Injured List and claimed cornerback B.W. Webb off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys.

Zumwalt, the Steelers first of two sixth-round draft picks this year, battled a groin in jury all throughout training camp and the preseason.

Webb was drafted in the fourth-round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Cowboys out of William & Mary. He recently suffered a hip flexor injury that prevented him from playing in the final two preseason games. In 2013 as a rookie, Webb was active for 15 games and registered 13 tackles and one pass breakup in 185 snaps played.

Webb is primarily best suited to play in the slot and his addition could be a sign that Brice McCain might be out a while with a groin injury that he suffered Thursday night in the loss to the Carolina Panthers.

At the 2013 NFL Combine, Webb measured in at 5-10 and weighed 184 pounds. He ran a 4.46 40-yard dash and had a 40.5 inch vertical jump. The Steelers had Webb in for a visit prior to the 2013 draft.

Anybody have any measurables on this guy?

  • 6 ring circus

    Thanks…

  • Luis Garcia

The Zumbwalt move its a typical sound smart Steelers move: not ready to make a decision on him and injured and promising?.. Well then to the IR, we will check you in a year wile you learn and lift weight.

  • Isaias Reyes

If a circus has more than 6 rings, is that outstanding or, kinda retarded?

  • Isaias Reyes

    guess.

  • ApexSteel

    5’11 190 4.51 40 time

So the worst defense in the league didn’t want him and he missed last two preseason games with injury. Sign me up!

  • chris ward

Tomlin gets a guy from his alma mater.

  • Ken

Same thing that crossed my mind. If you get cut from the Cowboys defense…..how good can you be.

  • steeltown

This kids a pretty good athlete. He has experience in zone and can return kicks. I wonder how serious the hip injury is..

Isnt this the kid that took a swing at that Raiders fan who threw or swung a helmet at one the Cowboys players?

  • Delroy Ross Jr.

Our scheme is totally different from the Cowboys. Lets wait and see if he can provide some sorely needed depth before we put him on death row.

  • Louis Goetz

I didn’t hear a press conference proclaiming this kid to be the next Rod Woodson. The Cowboys completely changed their defense this year. Perhaps he fit in well with what they wanted to do last year, but not in the new defensive system being installed this year. On top of that, the Steelers didn’t have to cut anyone to sign him and can turn around and cut him tomorrow if they want. They obviously had interest in him last year and are taking a look again. I don’t understand the criticism here.

  • joed32

He was the one who the fan swung the helmet at. It looked like he made a hard tackle and then stepped on or kicked the raider? Fuzzy picture. Another Raider went after him and the brawl broke out.

  • steeltown

Gotcha.. well, previous 4th Rd pick with some upside, kick the tires I guess

  • Steelers@2010

Average at best DB’s? Why? Why? Why?

  • cp72

They brought him in for a pre draft visit. They moved up to draft Shamarko and had another 4th round pick three picks later. The Cowboys took him right before our pick. Then we made a mistake and picked Landry Jones. Think he’s worth a look.

  • Kenneth Wilt

I can’t help but wonder how this impacts the roster. I have had 9 LBs on my prediction for a while, but it would not surprise me at the moment if we went with 8 and more CBs. The expansion of the PS roster may impact our thinking.

  • Nolrog

They signed him for depth and because of an injury to McCain. You guys make it sound like they signed him and expect him to start game 1.

  • Lucus Rodriguez

Finding anything better than average this time of year is a pipe dream dude.

  • 6 ring circus

Don’t destroy any more brain cells stressing over my handle, dude!

BW Webb was picked in the fourth round between S Thomas and L Jones. If you recall, the Steelers delayed picking L. Jones while hastily discussing the pick. All of their other picks were made promptly. Some wondered at the time whether they had wanted OL Barett Jones, QB Tyler Wilson, or CB BW Webb [e.g., the three picks that came off the board between Thomas and Landry Jones]. I’d say we have an answer re who they wanted.

  • Lil Smitty

    Will Allen last year.

  • blackandgoldBullion

He might only be a Steeler for a day or 2 after they see tomorrow’s cuts. In which case he’ll be able to say he was once a Steeler.

  • Matthew Colarossi

I really liked this guy coming out of college last year! Pumped!

  • j m

    Interesting insight!

  • AndyR34

It was done specifically to piss you off and make you ask questions!

  • Mark Armor

    Cuz that’s all that’s available

  • Jon Crissinger

Terrelle Pryor was released. Maybe we’ll pick him up too… lol

  • Louis Goetz

Then there’s also the possibility that the NFL squad with the worst defense has coaches who are bad at evaluating talent and deciding who to keep and who to cut.

  • Birdman

Idk I have a gut feeling he sticks with the team. They was eying him during the draft process and was probably going to be picked with the second 4th rd pick until the Cowboys took him.

  • Steelers@2010

    No need 2b ignorant

  • Steelers@2010

Dude, the comment was pure sarcasm; the decision to pick this kid up clearly shows Tomlin and Colbert’s inability to evaluate talent when it comes to DB’s / O/Linemen.

  • Steelers@2010

Don’t say that too loud, lol.

  • Ed Charles

If you drafted Dennard, like you should have, you wouldn’t have to be claiming below average corners off of the waiver wire. If DALLAS doesn’t think you’re good enough for that sorry a** defense then wtf are you doing claiming him?

  • joed32

Need to wait a few years to see how Dennard’s career turns out compared to Shazier’s. On draft day I wanted Dennard but Shazier looks like he could be very good.

  • Ed Charles

All things equal, passing on Dennard at draft day, when you secondary is WEAK at best, Terrible decision. Shazier might be very good but at the time, draft day, it was terrible to pass him up

  • wilfredo betances

Stop judging with out knowing if he can make an impact or not . its funny how every one’s just sitting around thinking they know what there talking about n really don’t so give the guy a chance and see and speak ur mind … Go Steelers
