About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.
  • pat

CJ Goodwin is a surprise to me has he done anything at all. The team must also see alot of potential in Nick Williams.

  • LucasY59

Don’t think they need 2 WR on the PS (not even sure they needed one) Not sure if they needed 2 DBs either, even though I like Richardson and Ventrone (also liked Dangerfield)

  • steeltown

  • T R

wow no Isisiah Green or Stephen Houston.. and now someone that can look as big as McCullers.. the Army Ranger, Alejandro Villanueva. I guess big is in..

  • LucasY59

Interesting they picked up the Army Ranger, Villanueva. Lots of D ends to develop. Keisel is having his farewell tour season this year

  • steeltown

Cam Thomas wont be around forever either IMO

  • michael young

I’m really happy about who we were able to sign to our practice squad. Jones, Mauro, Richardson, Williams and Blanchflower especially.

  • AzheDraven

I was surprised by CJ Goodwin. Also, anyone noted that the Steelers website said “offensive lineman Alejandro Villanueva”??

I wish Molls would have made the list, but I must say, I really like what I see here. I’m glad Moye, Blanchflower and Ventrone made it.

  • LucasY59

Nope (haven’t seen anything that makes Thomas worth keeping either, other than experience and backup NT capable) They don’t want the dead $ or admit they made a mistake by signing him (even though bringing the Beard back is kinda the same thing) IMO I would give McCullers the chance if Mclendon is out anyway. The UDFA and 7th rounders are cheaper to keep around as depth behind Heyward and Tuitt

  • SteelersDepot

Wait a minute. Several on here said Mauro and Jones would NEVER make it to the practice squad if waived. AHEM!!! Tried to tell you. :

  • Zumwalt Fan Club

Really surprised Molls didnt make it..he can play..but its looks good

  • T R

Interesting Steelers List A. Villaneuva as OLinmen, he was a Defensive End and was waived by Eagles as a DE. so we position changing him again? does he play LT?

  • LucasY59

Zumwalt on IR and best depth on the team at ILB makes him unnecessary even if he is a good player.

  • AzheDraven

But Villanueva was listed as a OLineman.

  • AzheDraven

    I miss Dangerfield :(

  • LucasY59

I would think he would be a TE if moved to Offense. whatever he plays I think he has potential and am hoping he turns out to be a guy that can make the 53 roster next year

  • Pitfan0513

Glad to see Ross Ventrone made it back to the practice squad!

  • LucasY59

Mauro or Williams probably make it next year, 2nd year on Keisel’s contract is just in case they pull an Arnfelt and regress next year instead of improve

  • T R

Yeah he was recruited as a TE, i think Philly tried to put him as DE.. so im sure we will put him as TE. But i also see him working as back up LT, he played LT in college.

  • joed32

Thomas is average and a solid backup, rotation guy and better than anyone they cut.

  • LucasY59

yeah, but bringing Keisel back shows he wasn’t what they hoped for when they signed him, Tuitt will start next year, McCullers should improve enough to be the backup NT and Thomas will be too expensive to keep on the bench, Mauro or Williams should get his spot

  • frednash

    He might be as tall

But he’s almost hundred pounds lighter!

  • joed32

He only makes 2 mil, just over the min and he will see playing time. I like Tuitt but he will rotate in for depth until they think he “gets it”‘ Thomas is the replacement for Al Woods. Like McCullers as well. If they both come along fast Then Thomas will be vet insurance.
If they thought Mauro or Williams were better they would have kept them.

  • Aric Brown

I love to watch ventrone play

  • Ryan

Lol after the Buffalo game a few were actin like Mauro was better than Tuitt

  • CW

Wait, who’s the linebacker they signed to the practice squad? Never mind. Somehow I missed Howard Jones

  • Superdriller316

WAIT A MINUTE….. CJ Goodwin is only a camp body?????? Where did I hear that?

  • joed32

It seems like he played everything in college including LT as a junior and WR as a senior. Strange pickup!

  • 20Stoney

Was gonna say the same thing. Thanks for doing it for me. Every year we think our guys aren’t going to make it to the PS squad and they almost always do. Even the ones that don’t are no big loss.

  • 20Stoney

He gets no respect. (sorry, I couldn’t help myself)

  • sweetleb

that is one bad practice squad, is colbert mailing it in this year.

  • Brian Miller

Hah! I see what you did there!

  • Brian Miller

I knew you were just chomping at the bit to throw that back at people’s faces…

  • blackandgoldBullion

How about a Red zone target?

  • blackandgoldBullion

He made a couple of spectacular catches. I saw the pics. You can’t teach that. Perhaps he can learn to run routes a little better and one day join the team. Otherwise it’s just 1 spot on the PS>

  • CuldesacBill

He really deserved a spot on the PS. He played really hard in the preseason and made a lot of tackles on special teams, especially against the Panthers.

  • ApexSteel

Yeah man. What ever happened to the ELITE practice squads we used to have?

  • johnhoien

He’s. actually been decent , felt that he is playing stronger in Pitt

  • AzheDraven

Lets boost it and sign Champ Bailey to the Practice Squad! That would be an instant upgrade over Shaq.

  • westcoasteeler

Can’t believe none of the defensive guys got picked up!

  • John A Stewart

    No Dangerfeild wow!

  • michael young

Wait a minute Dave. Are you saying teams aren’t just waiting around seeing who our beloved 8-8 Steelers are going to cut and sign them? Lol.

  • NimbusHex

I thought Ventrone was no longer eligible for the practice squad?

  • joed32

Just because the same thing happens every year.

  • joed32

    Definitely better than Dangerfield.

  • joed32

I don’t think the old man is eligible for the practice squad after 14 years in the league, Social Security maybe. Great player for a long time though.

  • Steelers12328882

He started every game at LT as a Junior in college as well as being a team captain. The next year he played WR lol. He also played DE as a freshman and was recruited as a TE. The dude would seem to have a lot of upside wherever they chose to play him.

  • sweetleb

8 wr,and archer and only 3 out-side lb on the 63 man , 3ot and a project for tackle on the practice squad. also was pryor pick up and why can’t we cut landry jones for pryor.

  • Nick Sabatella

Nick Williams looked explosive when I saw him in his limited preseason snaps. I think out of Mauro, Arnfelt and Williams…. Williams has the best shot at being an impact player. Mauro will be solid if he puts weight on his frame

  • ApexSteel

YEA!!! Then our practice squad will be back to ELITE status.

  • ApexSteel

  • jim

He’s signed for 2 years, so he might be here a little longer.,

  • BFB

The versatility he has may be the bigger issue. They can call him what they want but can use him as O-Lineman, DL, or TE.

  • BFB

Was glad to see Moye and Ventrone make it thru waivers and get the PS spots. I think Moye is great insurance for an injury situation and Ventrone was a special teams demon IMO. Seemed to have a nose for the ball when on ST’s or Defense. Was not too worried about Mauro.
Goodwin is a surprise. The rest seem solid.

  • Zumwalt Fan Club

Under the new rules, one more year was added to a players eligibilty.

  • PA2AK

Imagine that…none of these guys got signed elsewhere. Haha

  • Jacob Dixon

I think Richardson, Goodwin and Jones could become stars on our team

  • Douglas Andrews

Agree were talking about practice squad players who more than likely will only be running the scout team at best.

  • Reno

I was disappointed Stephen Houston wasn’t added to the pr in addition to Josh Harris. Thought either one should have made the team along with Mauro who deserved to make the team over both Landry and W. Allen. There is no upside with both of those players.

  • steeltown

I forgot he was 6’3, 4.41 and 40inch vertical is very athletic. A nice prospect for the PS no doubt

  • Big White

Thank god they were able to sign Mauro for the time being. If any good NFL scout was watching his work during the pre-season, he won’t be there long.

  • Shannon Stephenson

Disappointed Molls didn’t make it but being we have so many ILB’s its understandable also liked Sampson over Goodwin but I doubt if either will ever make a contribution to this team.

  • Superdriller316

That’s my point. I don’t see a HOF’er going out on a limb if there isn’t anything there. But there are some who say he’s just a camp body or a possible charity case. I guess people need to find excuses when things don’t fit their narrative.

  • newguy68

I was one of those guys who said Mauro would never make it to the practice squad and I am glad to be wrong. I would still rather see him on gameday than Mike Adams.

I know the NFL changed the number of players on the practice squad but can another team now or later on down the line sign Mauro or anyone off the practice squad?? If so, it ain’t over till it’s over.
