Giants Injury Report: Rookie WR Odell Beckham Jr. Won’t Play Against Steelers

Leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft, several draftniks penciled in the Pittsburgh Steelers as selecting former LSU wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. with their first-round pick. Beckham didn’t even fall that far, as the New York Giants drafted him with the 12th overall selection.

Due to a lingering hamstring injury, Beckham won’t be testing the Steelers secondary Saturday night in their preseason opener against the Giants.

“It sounds like he’s getting close,” Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said of Beckham during his Wednesday press conference. “They have him doing a lot of things, they’re going to push him a little bit more today and then they’re going to get a quarterback to throw to him and see how that goes, too.”

Beckham won’t be the only player the Giants will be missing Saturday night as wide receiver/return specialist  Trindon Holliday (hamstring) also will be sidelined, according to Coughlin.

Running back Peyton Hillis (ankle), tackle Will Beatty (leg), defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles (ankle), cornerback Trumaine McBride (labrum) and linebacker Jon Beason (foot) are all also expected to miss Saturday night’s game in addition.
