Steelers Waive RB Alvester Alexander Injured, Sign RB Jawan Jamison

The Pittsburgh Steelers made one roster move on Friday and it included letting a player go that was on the practice squad last season

Waived injured was running back Alvester Alexander, who had been on the PUP list with a groin injury. Alexander was originally signed by the Steelers last August and wound up being signed to the practice squad after the final round of cuts were made prior to the start of the 2013 season.

To fill Alexander’s spot on the roster, the Steelers signed running back Jawan Jamison. Jamison was originally drated by the Washington Redskins out of Rutgers in 2013 and spent some of last season on their practice squad.

The Rutgers product rushed for 1,972 yards and 13 touchdowns on 486 carries from 2010-12.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

Wow this was a surprise.. groin more serious then first anticipated?

  • GoSteelerz

If those highlights are truly indicative of what this guy is about, it may be a pleasant one…

  • Weiss Chad

This kid might stick.I like this kid, reminded me of a poor mans ray rice at Rutgers .Idk what his special teams contribution will be .Im starting to get just a tiny bit concerned about archer as a rb and am starting to think they are gonna keep four rb and six wr and archer being third rb and fifth or six on depth chart at wr.Who is gonna get more reps at wr this yr ?Justin Brown or dri archer

  • steeltown

Nice reel, but wonder why he’s been on the streets

  • falconsaftey43

wait till you see Archer in a game, nothing really to be excited or worried about until you can see him play

  • pat

Surprised we signed another rb makes me wonder about Bells hamstring (even tho he said he feels fine) or is there more to Blounts day off that we aren’t being told

  • Matthew Marczi

Lots of guys on the street, but you’re right. I did like him at Rutgers so we’ll see. Tough break for Alexander not being able to get on the field. Screwed up my practice squad prediction.

  • steeltown

    one RB for one RB

  • steeltown

Ha yea it did, was thinking myself it would come down to Alexander or the newly signed Harris

  • pat

But didnt we sign a rb when snow got released

  • steeltown

True, but if you look at the current roster we have plenty of numbers at most other positions. RB position needs bodies in camp considering Archer is seeing some snaps at WR and in the return game.

But to your point, I couldve seen them signing another TE with Flower and Waters out or even a place kicker to compete with Suisham

  • CW

Yes, but preseason running back roster spots are more to save the primary backs from overuse in meaningless games.

Also you can never get too many looks at young running backs. Arian Foster and Willie Parker were both undrafted free agents. Never know when you might find the next superstar back in the castoff pile.

  • CW

After signing Suisham to an extension I’d seriously doubt that management would want to try out another kicker in this preseason.

  • steeltown

Not in that regard, but to finish out preseason games and in case of injury.

  • Lil Smitty

I would think this is a move because they are not happy with the camp bodies. They are probably looking to sign RBs to the practice squad and thought they could do better.

  • steeltown

You may have been right, I think Blounts not practicing again

  • pat

Yea I just seen that and archer isnt practicing either

  • CW

    Good point.

  • steeltown

Yep, so no Blount, no Archer, Bell still making his way back and Alexander was on PUP so the Jamison signing REALLY makes sense

  • Steve

In the highlight reel made a sweet move on the LB and nice catch in the Endzone.

  • joed32

    Bell practiced Friday night.

  • Shannon Stephenson

I liked Jamison coming out of college…hope he proves me right with this chance
